Betty and Family, it is good when mortuaries seek to bring comfort to families even years after a loved ones death. I write now not for Charles, but for those he loved and served so intimately. The notice popped up on my screen this morning and I realized I am just one in the far distant past who joined, at the time of Chrales death and who joins now years later remembering. So many years have passed since the 1950s, the baseball games down on the field, the meals in the dining hall, classes for husbands and time for ourselves, Wives Club, gatherings with friends laughing and singing and seeking Gods guidance through studies, service and fellowship. I simply mention for memories stand us in good stead in our older years! And since since those Columbia graduation paths calling were answered. Walks in life brought differing veins of service in the Name of Christ for His honor alone. Ministries varied and were seized with great joy and lots of prayer. Through it all, the Lord of the church, Jesus Christ, remained the same . We know that in darkness Jesus Christ was Light and is Light and so we do not fear the darkness. His ruth was and is the charge and it is real and rich and to this we cling, Im grateful for this moment simply to say that I trust you are well and have received great comfort from many walking with you Warmly, Peggy (Mrs. B. Clayton Bell, Sr)

Betty, it was when the Columbia Vantage arrived that I had an opportunity to read Charlie's obit. Good to know his many accomplishments which surely were not a surprise! At the same time it was good to read the names of family members and to assume that you are lovingly cared for by a happy loving group. Memories came to mind of the way our paths crossed so many years ago at Columbia with Harry and Ginny, Buddy and Jane, Harry and Gin, when the two of you and so many other special friends were together getting ready to embark upon ministry. Very rich growing and serving times have been ours. Paths separated in ministry as we served our Heavenly Father but in death are joined again. I hope that this simply note reaches you months late as I now extend my sympathy. Peggy (Mrs. B. Clayton Bell, Sr.)

Just learned tonight about Dr. Cousar's transition.

He taught one of my New Testatment courses.

May God be with you now and always!

Dr. Cousar was wonderful man. He was a surrogate father to me from 1980 onward. His inner Peace could be felt from the other side of a room. He was a patient man. Not getting too mad at John, Jamie, Robert, Tommy and I when we were cutting up around 'The Seminary'. I think he really knew what we were up to most of the time, but we made it home, unscathed and not in jail. What a great guy.
I am a better person for having known him. He and Mrs. Cousar are irreplaceable people. I love them with all of my heart. Thank you for sharing your family with me.
Much love to all.

I am so thankful to have had Dr. Charlie Cousar as our guide exploring the mysteries of the New Testament. He opened the beauty of Paul to us and embodied what it means to be justified by grace. How blessed we all were by his considerable gifts as a teacher, a mentor, and a friend. While the church triumphant gains a worthy member, there is a gaping hole left in our world. Prayers ascending For Betty and all the family. Love in Christ, Joe Clifford

He taught me about life and dignity and character, more than he taught me how to read Greek or the New Testament.

He gave so much unstintingly and cared deeply for colleagues, students, family and friends. May Perpetual Light shine upon him. Fond memories of early work in the Atlanta Theological Association with him.

Charlie was a prince of a person! He inspired the best in every one who was fortuntate enough to encounter him. He was a gentle-man above all else, bearing and exuding the sweet savor of the humility of Christ as the apostle Paul would describe him. One felt the presence of the grace and peace of Christ in his life and it was a special joy to be his colleague at CTS for 13 years. I knew he would be there at any time for me and that his advice would be steeped in the wisdom of a long heritage of Christian paideia and love. Truly he was a disciple without guile, looking out and taking care of the needs of others before his own.
Charlie was a great family man and was so proud of every one of them. Students loved his courses because they knew they would get superb scholarship, including his own most recent research and publications, along with the genuine array of Christian interpretations that would build their ministries. But most of all, they knew they would meet a man formed in the very image of the Christ that Charlie so humbly and magnificently represented, an encounter that would forever enrich and re-structure their lives.
Charlie was a true 'doctor of the church' whose place is unique and can not be filled or matched by any other.
He will be sorely missed by the many folk that he blessed but his scholarship will remain strong and vital for generations to come.
My wife Jeanne joins me in thanking God for the wonderful life of Charlie Cousar. Soli Deo gloria!
