HOFER, Dr. Charles Warren Dr. Charles Warren Hofer suffered a massive heart attack on Thursday March 23, 2017 pronounced deceased on Monday March 27, 2017. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Judith Millner Hofer, brothers John and Barry and his sister Joan. Charles grew up in Duncannon, Pennsylvania where he was the valedictorian of Susquenita High School in 1958. He attended Lehigh University as an undergraduate and Harvard University as a graduate student, graduating with masters in Physics and Marketing, and a DBA in Business Policy. He went on to receive a Fulbright Fellowship at the Singapore Institute of Management. Dr. Hofer taught at Stanford University, Northwestern, Boston College, Columbia University and NYU. He was a visiting professor at UC Riverside and Rutgers University before settling down at the University of Georgia for 27 years. There he was awarded a Regents Professorship, the first ever university-wide chair awarded at the business school. Professor Hofer started two business plan competitions on his very own: the Georgia Bowl for graduate students and the Georgia Cup for undergraduates. The GA Bowl competition evolved into a national competition and for the past 26 years has been the longest running competition of its kind. After a long career at UGA, Professor Hofer was recruited by Kennesaw State University as their first ever Regents Professor of Business. His long list of PhD students achieved more national dissertation awards than any other professor in the country and his business plan teams had the highest win rate in national competitions during his tenure. Dr Hofer wrote seminal articles that continue to be cited and he is widely recognized as one of the founders of the field of Strategy. He has been the recipient of more than 22 teaching awards and honorariums, including The Levey award and the Cherry Award, Baylor University international award for great teachers. He devoted untold hours to aiding students in entrepreneurship and has been instrumental in helping to establish over 20 new ventures. He has profoundly impacted the lives of students and colleagues during his more than 40 years career. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Georgia Bowl to continue his legacy. A visitation time will be held on Saturday, April 1, from 12:00-1:00 pm at Crowell Brothers Funeral Home in Peachtree Corners, GA. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 1, at 1:00PM at Crowell Brothers Funeral Home in Peachtree Corners, GA. There will a reception to follow the service at the chapel. I am deeply saddened to just learn today that Dr. Hofer has passed. I send my deepest condolences to his family.

Dr. Hofer was the main reason why I decided to attend the full-time MBA program at Georgia...and he proved that decision a smart one.

I thoroughly enjoyed his Entrepreneurship course and the challenging tasks of presenting before his handpicked panel of judges.

In addition, he offered me an opportunity to be part of the Venture Capital competition experience. He opened up his vast network and allowed for us to meet with top Atlanta venture capitalists in an intimate private setting.

He was an outstanding teacher and a great man. He is sorely missed!

I will remember Chuck for many positive shared experiences and expansive discussions. But I will remember him most for his enthusiasm. When Chuck had an interest, he did his absolute best to ensure others shared it. A positive man in a cynical age.

Charles is a valued friend. When one does know him, they encounter his kind heart.
I have been blessed with many very capable people in my life, but I have never met a more intelligent person; never a harder worker; never by far a more diligent detailed planner; and never a more energetic proactive doer. That unique combination naturally explains his superior achievements.
When I "count coup" in my life, I boast of the two times when I sensed his fatigue and exploited his very temporary vulnerability on the chess board. I knew better than to ever challenge, or meet, him there fairly.
His keen wit and company are missed.
