Lewis, Sr.April 7, 1933 - November 27, 2011 OKLAHOMA CITY Charles Edward Lewis, Sr., was born April 7, 1933 in Lawton, OK. Charles passed away on November 27, 2011 at his home, with his family lovingly by his side. Charles attended Douglass High School in Lawton, OK and graduated in 1952. Charles and Dorothy were high school sweethearts. Charles attended Langston University and became a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., graduating in 1956. Charles continued his education, obtaining a Master's degree in Education from Oklahoma University. Charles had a passion for teaching and was a leader in the Oklahoma City Public School System. Charles began his career teaching in the classroom. Charles later taught in the Teacher Corp. From there, Charles was promoted to Assistant Principal and then Principal. During Charles' career, he received a host of awards and recognitions. Charles was recognized for his leadership and team spirit in the Teacher Corp. Charles was recognized by the Oklahoma City Principal Association for 34 years of dedicated service to the children of Oklahoma Public Schools. Charles was also recognized by the Oklahoma Adult Basic Education Association for 30 years of dedicated service to Oklahoma Adult Education. Charles retired as a Principal in 1990. Charles is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Dorothy Jean Lewis; two sons, Barry Darnell Lewis of Seattle, WA and Richard Dale Lewis of OKC; two daughters, Anita Marie Lewis of OKC and Chara Evon Lewis-Holliman (Jade) of Antioch, TN. Charles also leaves 5 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, sister and brother, sisters-in-law, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Charles will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
