I remember seeing Chris as a little guy when I was a high school student in Iowa. I remember him being a happy good-looking kid. I saw him several times with his aunt, Sydnee, a friend of mine. I'm so sorry. I have just heard of this tragedy recently.

God Bless,

After cleaning out some old bins, I found an old address book that had Chris's contact info in it. His was the only one that I considered looking into, which I did today via google search. I am sad to know that he has passed away and wish that I had tried to contact him sooner. It's been years since we have spoken. I met Chris and a friend of his (Jay) in 1995 through my frequent visits to Atlanta. (I live in New Jersey.) We kept in touch and became good friends during the years after. The last time we spoke was probably around 2000 but I have always thought of his kindness throughout the years. When I think of him now, I think of this laid-back, open-minded person that I always enjoyed talking to and visiting when I was in town. He had great qualities and had a way of making everyone feel comfortable and at ease. My condolences go out to his family.

Chris and I became friends in 7th grade at Anwatin Jr. High and remained friends throughout high school at Washburn. I am honored to have known him and will treasure my memories of our time spent together. He had a gentle heart and a kind spirit that I will never forget.

My deepest condolences to his family and friends.

To Chris’ family and friends:

I first learned that Chris had passed last weekend. I am very sorry for your loss. Chris was one of the first friends that I made when I moved to Minneapolis in the middle of 7th grade. I still have fond memories of Chris and me spending long summer days riding our BMX bikes around Mpls and stopping for Slurpees at the 7-11 that was at the corner of 40th and Lyndale. Chris was very gracious to welcome me into his home and introduce me to the group of friends that he had established when we both attended Anwatin Junior High. When Chris and I started at Washburn, Chris was one of only two people that I knew at the huge school. He was a great support for me as I tried to navigate a new environment. After 4 years of high school and countless hours together on the wrestling team, Chris and I lost touch until he reached out to me in 2005.

I remain grateful for his years of friendship. Although he was much larger than the small boy that I first met in 7th grade, his smile and his warm personality was exactly the same when we reconnected in Atlanta.

I pray that all of you find the strength to carry on and remember the joy that Chris brought to many people throughout his life.

I would like to send my condolences to the family of Chris Devine during the loss of their loved one. I met Chris through Stacey Carmichael. He was from her hometown of Minneappolis. During the time I got to know Chris, he was a nice, down- to-earth, laid back and real kind of guy. I think my fondest memories will be the lengthy emails we shared back and forth. It was nice to have someone that I could discuss any topic with and voice honest opinions. Although my memories were short-lived, he will be missed. And, my heart goes out to his family and longtime friends.

It seems like yesterday that I met him downtown for lunch. I am so sorry that he is gone. I feel like I have been kicked in the gut. I will always remember him. My thoughts are with his girls and his family.

Chris will be sorely missed. He was a great guy, a great friend, and a very loving father. His girls were his world. I will miss him dearly and his spirit will always be remembered. Although time lapsed between times that we would get together, it was always like yesterday we saw each other when we would get together.

Occasionally you cross paths with a person who leaves a great impression in a short period of time. Although Christian and I worked in different departments our paths crossed more frequently within the last 2 years. He was a very kind gentleman who adored and spoke often of his children.
To his family, may God's strength comfort you. He will be missed.

Chris,
A very special, kind and loving man whom I had the pleasure of knowing the past 7 years. You know it's so hard for me to say to good-bye to you. You were my advisor, consoler, my voice of reason when I needed it. It's sadden me deeply to know my "brother from another mother" as I often called you is gone. I will always treasure our many laughters and the special moments. Thank you for allowing me into your inner circle of friends. I'll rest easy knowing the pain is no more and you're resting comfortably.

Love your "twisted, crazy sister"....Dee

For five out of the seven years I worked with Christian we were very good friends. He is, not was, one of the extreme few I allowed to be close to me. Everyone is my friend in my mind, however, Christian was about as close to a true friend that I had. He was the only one I’d ever hang out with on my lunch hours, and I’ll always be grateful for our endless hours spent discussing the game of life and the game of baseball (sometimes to a fault as too much time slipped away). I’ll never forget first meeting this guy and our last meeting. I’ll never forget totally racking his mind with goofball jokes, just for the honest sake of making him laugh, trying to get a reaction out of him, and toy with his mind. Christian is a kindred spirit and that is what I love about him. He was always hard nosed, a perfectionist, and always wanted to do things the right way all of the time, and could never stand it if he was ever the one to do something the wrong way. My kind of guy. He made it a point to tell me that what mattered most were the friendships that lasted outside of the workplace and I saw it in his life -that friendships outside of the corporate world were a top priority. Above that, and above all else were the constant mentioning of his two girls who are like precious jewels to him.

To Butch, who I never got to meet, I’ll say that on two occasions he expressed his gratitude that you taught him statistics, what they are for, why they are important, as well as an appreciation that you taught him how to read this information in the paper on a daily basis. To you, Butch, I should be grateful that you shaped a great guy, one of few that was and is to me a true and dear friend that I’ll miss. I’m very bothered by this loss on various levels because of the friend that he was during those five years. Also, I’ll say that to you how proud he was to tout your weightlifting picture. Christian honored those who have great determination, self discipline, and results, all of which you must have embodied. This is the son you helped shape, and the friend you helped give to us all. Thanks again to you, sir.

May God in heaven reach down and pour out his everlasting love, mercy, guidance, and renewal on his family and friends left behind.
My hope is to find more Christian Devines and keep them close. Even if they are Yankee/Twins fans, I’ll take them any day of the week over what everyone else has. Truly I’ve been enriched in knowing him, and have not realized it until this week.

Christian. Thanks man. Thanks.

Christian My Buddy My Pal.

I will miss his friendship and advise. I am blessed because he left me with lots of wonderful memories of him. We worked together at KS as a team for 7 years in the A/R Dept. I sat in the cubicle right next to him - just a couple of feet away. I saw him every morning for 7 years. He was always a gentlemen and very considerate. He would every now and then throw me a piece of candy and tell me to smile. He was like a younger brother to me. We argued about Michael Vick. We were both true Yankee fans. We talked about our kids in sports. He loved his daughters to death. They were everything in his world. He idolized his father. He worshiped his mom. He believed in being there for his two sisters. I always told him that he should have been a sports commentator because he loved to talk about sports. He knew everyone from every level (HS, College & Pros). I believe that God has lots of work for Christian to do in heaven. He still has so much give.
My prayers are with his family for this is a tremedous loss to us all.

My buddy My pal may he "rest in peace".

Chris and I were good frieds during grade school in Des Moines on old 44th street and then lost touch when he moved. I can remember many times that I spent with him as we worked to become young men! I think we tried our parents' patience once or twice when we were young because we both held, let's say, a zest for life. I was very saddened to see one of my best friends had past away. Although we had not talked in many years I remeber his smile, spirit and loyalty. My heart goes out to his daughters. Please remeber that when your dad was your age he loved life and lived it well.

Cousin Chris, I will always treasure our brief but meaningful phone and e-mail encounters; the beautiful pictures of your oldest daughter at the time of her birth; the pride in your voice when you discussed your children's mother and the sincerity of your kind, authentic and generous spirit. I would marvel at the similiarity of how much you looked like our cousin Miffie when you were younger. The Devine genes run deep. I've e-mailed Tracey asking her to please keep in touch with both myself and our cousin, Sandi Brewster-Walker. We want your daughters to know the rich family history that they carry within their DNA. You have gone from labor to reward. We loved you dearly, but God loved you more. Rest in peace Beloved and may our Creator grant your mom, dad and sisters the peace that surpasses human understanding.

Love you.

Christian's passing is a tremendous loss. I came to know him during the time that he worked at my law firm. He was an extremely intelligent, engaging and generous individual. When he learned that my son was a budding wrestler he encouraged and supported him by giving him Iowa Hawkeye wrestling tapes, posters and even his coveted Hawkeye wrestling baseball cap. This expression of love and generosity towards my son was consistent with the overwhelming love that Christian constantly expressed regarding his daughters. They were clearly the center of his universe. Christian also expressed an enormous amount of pride in the accomplishments of his father, including his pioneering achievements as an African-American collegiate wrestler. If there is ever anything that I can do to in any way assist Christian"s family, particularly his daughters, please feel free to call on me.
