I have had few heroes in my life, but Mr. Barrett was one of the honored few. He shared his passion for history with a young boy and turned him into a soldier and historian. I will never forget his kindness, wisdom and patience. He may be gone, but he will not be forgotten. His memory lives on in every one his "boys" who take the fields or teach the classes. To his family, you have my sincerest condolences. He will be sorely missed.

Dear Brenda and Laura,
I was so saddened by the news of Mr. Barrett's illness and death. I have loved getting to know your family over the past year, and was especially fond of Mr. Barrett's love and affection for his family and friends and history! He had such passion and joy for his life! You are all in my thoughts and prayers. I know that your faith in God is an incredible comfort to you at this time. May His peace and love prevail in your hearts and minds. You and your family will continue to be in my thoughts and I will be here for you always. With sympathy and love from your "nurse navigator," Emily

Brenda and family, our thoughts and prayers are with you. Although I am a cousin, I did not know David near as well as his fellow re-enactors or friends. I appreciate the Barrett family history he worked on, his love of Civil War memorabilia, and will miss seeing him at Barrett Family Reunions. He touched many lives, and many were touched and honored to have known him. He brought honor and pride to your family. May God Bless.

In the Prayer of the Confederate Soldier, there is a line that says: "I asked God for health, that I might do greater things, I was given infirmity, that I might do better things. "

David was a Christian Gentleman. He is now in the house not built with hands, eternal in the heavens. So mote it be.

To the Barrett Family,
David was a fine man, a hard working Mason & a knowledgeable historian. His Civil War re-enactments gave people a true picture of what service in that war was like for the men of both sides. He was a vital link to that long ago war. He will be missed by all who knew him and the 492 Lodge & history are poorer for his loss. GOD BLESS HIM.

Barrett Family: I was shocked to see David's obituary in the paper. I was not aware he had a recent stroke. I have known him for about seven years, and he kidded me about my fancy Revolutionary War uniform as compared to his homespun one. He was always a pleasure to be with at the schools for the Georgia Heritage programs and I always looked forward to hearing more of his stories. He will be missed by all who knew him. Remember the good times and know he is looking down from above.
