David Kuchinski Obituary

KUCHINSKI, David Alan

David Alan Kuchinski, beloved family man, devoted educator and coach, and dedicated community servant, passed away peacefully at the age of 82 on Sunday, November 30, 2025.

He was predeceased by Carol (Klink) Kuchinski, his wife of 53 years whom he adored; his parents, William and Marion Kuchinski; and his brother, William Kuchinski.

He will be lovingly remembered by his sons: Eric (Sara) Kuchinski, and Brad (Kimberly) Kuchinski; grandchildren: Kathryn, John, Samantha, and Tyler; sister, Judy (James) Clark; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was blessed with friends that he thought of as family. He also became a second dad and mentor to many students and friends of his sons.

David was born in Scranton, PA, and proudly attended Central High School. He worked his way through college and achieved Master's degrees in Special Education and Education Administration. He was a Special Education teacher in Owego, NY, for 31 years. He was devoted to teaching and mentoring youth. Some would say he was also there to play cards and throw darts, in the teacher's lounge. He was honored to receive the Golden Apple Award for Excellence in Teaching.

David was passionate about his work as director of his beloved Camp Ahwaga, a summer camp for special needs children to bridge the gap between the support they received during the school years. He considered both the students who attended and the staff as family. He received several local and state accolades for his work with the camp.

David was a coach for Owego Free Academy track and field. Coach K could be found walking the field dispensing encouragement and support that went beyond athletics.

After retirement, he and Carol moved to Blacksburg, VA, where they supported the Virginia Tech Hokies, especially the Women's Basketball Team. They later moved to Canton, GA, before David settled in Suwanee, GA, after Carol's passing.

He was a member of the Elks Lodge in Owego and Rotary Club in Blacksburg. He acted as a trustee for the Blacksburg United Methodist Church.

David enjoyed traveling, card games, attending sporting events, and carpentry. His favorite activity was visiting his grandchildren, taking them on adventures, going to their sporting events, and shows, and watching them all grow into wonderful young people.

A private Celebration of Life will be held later.
