Dorothea WITTMER Obituary

WITTMER, Dorothea Y. Dorothea Y. Wittmer, age 97, died on September 22nd at her daughter's home in Roswell, GA. Born in New York City on December 30, 1916 as Dorothea Lillian Yungert; she was the daughter of John and Marie Yungert. Growing up during a time when horse drawn carriages were still in use, Dotty lived her life fully, embracing change, traveling the world, becoming an accomplished fiber artist, mastering the computer and regretting that she never learned to fly. Graduating from Pratt Institute as a dietician, she worked for The United Fruit Company and Borden Dairy in recipe development, food photography and conducting cooking demonstrations at the 1939 World's Fair in New York. She married Henry Richard Krack in 1940. They had two children and raised their family on the North Shore of Long Island. She was active in the P.E.O Sisterhood, taught Dale Carnegie classes and founded the Long Island Chapter of the Embroiders' Guild of America. Widowed in 1979, she remarried in 1985 to Edward F. Wittmer of Manhattan, they moved to Hendersonville, NC where they lived for 20 years. Dotty was predeceased by her husband, Henry Richard Krack; her brother, John F. Yungert; her sister, Janet Y. Colangelo; and her second husband, Edward F. Wittmer. Dorothea is survived by her son, Conrad Richard Krack of Maryville, TN; her daughter and son-in law, Kris and Dave Taylor of Roswell, GA; her granddaughters Kathleen Taylor Miner, Heather Taylor Turekian and Leandra Adele Birch. Her four great grandchildren: Clara Miner (7), Davidson Miner (5), Aleena Turekian (5) and Charles "Chip" Turekian (21 months) live in Washington, DC with their parents. A memorial service is scheduled for 4 PM on Saturday, October 11th in the Chapel of Roswell United Methodist Church: 814 Mimosa Blvd., Roswell, Ga 30075 with a reception proceeding in the church parlor at 3PM.

Life has many twists and turns, filled with joy and sadness but only God is the constant. Aunt Dottie was very special.

I never had a chance to express my deep sympathy to you Chris and Dave and to your family. I think of Dottie often and miss coming out to give her the massages she so enjoyed. She has a special place in my heart.
