Douglas Bragg Obituary

BRAGG, Douglas

Douglas Nelson Bragg was Born in Atlanta, Georgia on February 22, 1951. He was the second of four children raised by parents Martha and Alfred Bragg in Columbus, Georgia.

Douglas attended Columbus High School. While in high school he excelled both academically and in competitive swimming, setting local YMCA records for 25 meter butterfly.

After graduating from Columbus High School he attended Davidson College in North Carolina where he earned his Bachelor's Degree in History. He later returned to Georgia to earn his Master's Degree in Business at Georgia State University. Over the course of his life Douglas advanced his career in medical administration and banking.

Douglas was married to his wife Emily Kay Lagerquist for 49 years. They were married at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in 1977. Douglas and Kay raised their son Stewart Nelson Bragg in Atlanta.

Douglas was a lifelong Episcopalian. While in college he served as a lifeguard and counselor at Camp Mikell in Toccoa, Georgia. At All Saints Episcopal Church in Atlanta he passionately volunteered with outreach ministries, helped lead Boy Scouts of America Troop 42, and was a long standing usher. Later in life Douglas became a member of the Cathedral of St. Philip where he passionately volunteered at the Cathedral Thrift Store.

Douglas was an active member of the Atlanta Men's Garden Club, enjoyed reading, and was a lifelong swimmer, competing in senior men's swimming leagues. He will be remembered as a man of faith, family and service.

Douglas went to be with the Lord on February 23, 2026, one day after his 75th birthday, as a result of Parkinson's Disease. He was preceded by his father, Alfred Orman Bragg, Jr.; mother, Martha Peddicord Bragg; and brother, Alfred Orman Bragg, III. Survivors include his wife, Kay Bragg; son, Stewart Bragg; daughter-in-law, Caroline Bragg; granddaughter, Kate Hampton Bragg; sister, Susan Adams; brother-in-law, Gene Adams; brother, Geoffrey; sister-in-law, Alice Bragg; sister-in-law, Laura Gottwald; nephews, John Campbell Bragg, Read Adams and Austin Bragg; and niece, Elizabeth Strickland.

A memorial service will be Monday, March 2, 2026 at 2 o'clock at the Cathedral of St. Philip, 2744 Peachtree Rd., NW, Atlanta, GA 30305.
