DAVID, Edgar, Jr. Lt. Col. Edgar George David, Jr., U. S. Army Retired, 83, of Dawsonville, GA passed away September 20, 2012. Born in Tampa, FL, following a 20 year career in the Army he returned to Dawson County in 1974. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from North Georgia College and two Masters Degrees from the University of Georgia. A highly decorated officer, he did tours of duty in both Korea and Vietnam serving with the Special Forces (Green Berets). Later he taught survival skills in Colorado and Alaska, where he also served as the U. S. Army Communications Advisor for Alaska. He was a Professor of Military Science at Georgia Tech and Ouachita Baptist College, retiring in 1971. Returning to Dawson County he served on the Board of Education, Board of Elections, Board of Equalization, Dawson County Planning Commission, as President of the Booster Club, Dawsonville Lions Club, a charter member of the Dawson County Chamber of Commerce, founder of the Lake Lanier Homeowners Association, and served on the Dawson County Development Authority and Industrial Building Authority. He was co-founder and a charter member of the Board of Directors of the Etowah Water and Sewer Authority, Dawson County Humane Society, and Dawson County Republican Party. For his outstanding contributions he received the first Dawson County Stewardship Award and the Governor's Lifetime Achievement Award. Lt. Col. David was preceded in death by wife of 48 years, Marie Elinor Alston David; his parents, Edgar George David, Sr. and Edna Anderson David Noblin; sister, Nancy Forsyth Noblin, and granddaughter, Erica Helton. Surviving are his children, Jennifer C. David, Dawsonville, Dana and Ben LaChance, Dahlonega, Claire and Garry Sharp, Dahlonega, Melanie E. David Nelson, Dahlonega, Dorian Elise David, Dahlonega, David and Jean Carpenter, Duluth; sister and brother in law, Deborah and Paul Becotte, Quincy, FL, brother and sister in law, Douglas and Susan David, Wadmalow Island, SC; 8 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Tuesday September 25, 2012 at 2 o'clock at the First Baptist Church of Dawsonville. Dr. Jim Gaines will officiate. Interment will follow in the Dawsonville City Cemetery with full military honors. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2 until 7 and Monday from 5 until 9 at the funeral home.
