In 1972 I led a successful drive to obtain DeKalb County's first police helicopter with trading stamps. The help and support of Mr. Ellis played a major role in the endeavor.

Elmo was truly a giant in his industry. His presence at the dinner meeting at Herren's that presaged the forming of Atlanta Landmarks (who went on the save the Fox) and his continuing interest in this great endeavor contributed greatly to the success of this civic enterprise. I have been proud to call Elmo and Ruth friends since that time and am greatly saddened to know that he is gone. My deepest sympathy to Ruth and the family.

Elmo Israel Ellis was a champion of civil public discourse and a model of a responsible citizen broadcaster. May his spirit endure. His daughter Janet and I were classmates in DeKalb public schools.
