Christopher McAuliffe Obituary

Christopher McAuliffe was born on Jan. 5, 1925, in the town of Meens Newmarker, County Cork, Ireland. He was the fifth son born to James McAuliffe and wife, Nora McAuliffe, whose maiden name was Casey.
He grew up in a small cottage on a one-acre ranch. His father worked for the county council (road department) and his mother was a stay-at-home mom.
Chris left Ireland around 1948 at the age of 24, came to New York, worked construction and numerous other jobs, working his way across the country to Lakeview, Ore.
While in Lakeview, he worked for the M.C. Ranch and the ZX Ranch as a cattle and sheep herder. He then moved to Klamath Falls and herded sheep for Jackie O'Connor.
He was next employed by Weyerhaueser Co. until purchasing his own homestead in Malin with his wife Juanita and their daughters, Ramona and Juanita, and son, Herbie, whom they raised.
After Chris retired, he turned the ranch over to his daughters Juanita and Ramona, then took his retired time to spend some quality time with his family until his wife, Juanita, became quite ill and passed away.
Chris then became involved with the hobbies of his choice, which included golf, a game that he played often with his daughter, Ramona, and nephew, Tib, and numerous friends. He often kept up with the sport of boxing, rodeos, horse racing and occasional fishing. He actively enjoyed deer hunting and pursued this sport with both his girls, Juanita and Ramona, his son, Herbie, and Tib.
Chris' father, James, and mother, Nora, and four brothers, James, Tim, Jack Jeremiah, one sister, Catherine, and wife, Juanita, preceded him in death.
He is survived by two daughters, Juanita and Ramona; a son, Herbie; a very special nephew, Tib Alverage; a sister-in-law, Kim Alverage; a host of nieces and nephews, family members in Ireland and many friends who will always love and remember that very special Irish gentleman with that beautiful Irish brogue.
We will love him in life and miss him in death and we know that we will all have the honor of seeing him again.
Family and friends can say so long at St. Augustine's Catholic Church in Merrill, Ore., officiated by Father Akano Francis at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 12, 2009. Luncheon after the service will be at the Community Church Hall.
