Family-Placed Death Notice

MASON, Frances FRANCES RAY ALLRED MASON Funeral services for Mrs. Mason of Atlanta, Georgia who died on July 11, 2008, will be held on Monday, July 14, 2008 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of H.M. Patterson and Son, Spring Hill, 1020 Spring St, Atlanta, GA 30309 with the Reverend Doctor C. Robert Allred officiating. Entombment will follow at Westview Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the Spring Hill Chapel from 2:00-4:00 PM Sunday, July 13, 2008. Frances Ray was born in Birmingham, Alabama and married her first husband, Reverend George Allred, her college sweetheart, with whom she served the Lord in holding religious evangelistic church services. Husband George met an untimely death while serving in the United States Navy Air Corps during World War II. For many years, Frances, with dignity, grace and integrity, assisted the CEO's of Liberty National Life Insurance company of Birmingham and Trust Company Bank. With her gentle spirit and spiritual insight she influenced those with whom she came in contact both at work and in her personal ministry. She was known for her giving to others. In later years she married Ed Mason with whom she shared a loving marriage for many years prior to his death. He faithfully encouraged and supported her ministry. With her calling and gifts for ministry, Mrs. Mason founded and pastored the Decatur Wesleyan Church in Decatur, GA. In later years she led Bible studies, and with her sweet and gentle spirit, she greatly influenced those with whom she shared her faith and knowledge of the Bible along with her strong convictions for giving. She was awarded a doctorate by Southern Wesleyan University for her personal contributions to ministry and her dedication to providing education for those preparing for Christian ministry. She instituted scholarships for ministry education at the following seminaries and universities: Beeson School of Divinity, Asbury Theological Seminary, Southern Wesleyan University, Candler School of Theology and Indiana Wesleyan University. She is survived by her nephew, Dr. C. Robert Allred, her stepdaughter, Jean Morris; step-grandchildren: Bob Morris, Margaret Wozniak, Karen Brock, Scott and Lisa Morris, and nephews and nieces: Rita Ann Short, Vivian Fox, Patricia Cowden, Mary Frances Ray, Betty Walker, and Thomas Edward Ray. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Frances Allred Mason Ministry Scholarships through Suntrust Bank, Atlanta GA.

What a beautiful, sweet, sweet spirit has left us. My mother and Frances' mother were dear friends, and Frances became a dearly beloved friend of the family. We all loved her and she graciously accepted it.
She became another daughter to my mother when Mrs. Ray died and their friendship grew over the years, as their eyes were both on the same prize. Frances was a generous spirited, warm, totally committed Christian Soldier who quietly led by example.
This world is not as bright today, as yesterday, but there is great rejoicing in Heaven, as Another Soldier Has Come Home. Rest in peace, Frances, I was indeed blessed to have known you all my life.
