Frances Smoot Obituary
Frances M. Smoot died in her sleep November 6, 2025, the day after her 91st birthday. Growing up in Cincinnati, she was a dancer through high school, where she met Tom Smoot, a "bad boy" who reformed under her influence. They married after she earned a degree in Education. She raised three children in Pittsburgh and Chicago before the family settled in Atlanta in 1969. When her youngest reached middle grades, Frances re-entered education and taught third grade at Holy Innocents Episcopal School for 33 years. She and Tom traveled six continents and competed in road races into their 70s. She continued to be a bright and lively presence, even after she entered memory care. She is survived by daughter, Kim Carter; son, Scott Smoot; son, Todd Smoot, his wife, Alice; and her grandchildren, Raymond Craig Smoot and Mary Alice Vinehout.
Her memorial service is planned for Saturday, January 17, 10 AM at St. James Episcopal Church, 161 Church Street, Marietta.
