Geraldine SPARROW Obituary

SPARROW, Geraldine Geraldine (Jerrie) Bishop Sparrow, age 75, of Riverdale, GA died Sunday, April 19, 2015. She was born in Atlanta, GA to the late Roy and Dorothy Elizabeth Haynes Bishop. Jerrie was a member of Liberty Baptist Church, Riverdale, GA. She was a 1957 graduate of Fulton High School. From 1962 to 1974, she lived in many states across the country as a result of her husband's employment. Jerrie enjoyed watching her husband and grandchildren playing sports, school and church events. She enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren, letting them do pretty much anything they wanted including putting makeup on her. She was always up to date with the latest trends, and always surprised you with an obscure pop culture reference that we would have no idea how she knew about it. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Mrs. Sparrow is survived by her husband of 55 years, Donald Sparrow, Riverdale, GA; children, Donna (John) Sparrow Fincher, McDonough, GA, and Gary (Donna) Sparrow, Conley, GA; sister, Beverly Bishop, Griffin, GA; grandchildren, Chris Dirgo, Emily Fincher, and Elizabeth Fincher; great-grandchildren, Hope Dirgo, Jack Dirgo and Jake Dirgo. Memorial Services will be held at 6:00pm on Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at the Chapel of Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors with Pastor Roger Davis officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday, April 22, 2015 from 4:00pm to 6:00pm at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718 or cancer.org/givehope. Those who wish may sign the on-line guest registry at www.cannonclevelandfunerals.com. Donald, you may not remember me, but you were in a Sunday School Class that I taught many years ago at Lakewood Heights Baptist Church. My two boys looked up to you because you played baseball for UGA. I'm so sorry for your loss, because I know what it means to lose a wife and mate.

Jerri was a big part of my childhood. She lived at the bottom of the hill - Conrad Avenue's - as long as I can remember; she was my sister Carole's best friend and I 'tagged' along with them nearly everywhere they went. I know I was annoying but Jerri tolerated me, most of the time. Jerri was everything I wanted to be: slender, funny, caring; and best of all, she had a wonderful head of naturally curly hair that I envied. She was special.
