Glen Thurman Obituary

THURMAN, Glen Holman

Glenn Holman Thurman, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, died peacefully on November 15, 2025, after a courageous battle with heart failure, just two days shy of his 80th birthday. Born at Crawford Long Hospital in Atlanta on November 17, 1945, to James and Mildred Thurman, he was a fourth generation Atlantan.

Glenn enjoyed a wild Buckhead youth. He spent his childhood playing sports and forging friendships, often engaging in mischievous "fun" that would later serve as hilarious story material. He attended Morris Brandon, Lovett, graduated from Dykes High School (now North Atlanta) and received a marketing degree from Georgia State University.

Glenn was a fearless entrepreneur, starting and building several businesses. He had a knack for marketing and was known for his integrity and the genuine care he showed for the people who worked with him. Among his many business relationships, none meant more to him than his forty-year friendship and collaboration with Marshall Adams.

A diehard Falcon fan from the time the team came to Atlanta as an expansion team in 1966, Glenn enjoyed spearheading family tailgates prior to home games for many years. He was an avid tennis player for the majority of his life, including starring on the Georgia State tennis team, and in fact, it was during an impromptu mixed doubles match at the Capital City Club that he met and fell in love with Missy, his future bride of 55 years. He also loved playing golf and knowing the history of the game. Glenn always looked forward to his weekly Wednesday lunch with his golf buddies whose friendships meant a great deal to him.

Glenn's love of dogs was legendary. He loved all the dogs in his life, starting with Pupsy, ending with Winston and Chummy. Each dog was "the best dog of all time."Glenn's proudest accomplishment was being a dedicated father and family-man. He could always be found supporting his children at their various activities and sporting events – teasing his daughter for only caring about the social aspect of tennis and coaching his son on the baseball field. He was also determined to give them the best education possible.

Later in life, his greatest source of joy was his grandchildren. Glenn was "Pop Pop" to his seven grandchildren, to whom he gave the special gift of really knowing and loving each other through annual beach trips. The kids energized him and always brought a smile to his face. His favorite t-shirt said, "Pop Pop said it was okay."

To those who knew him best, Glenn will be remembered for his kindness, quiet generosity, his wit, the wisdom and stories he shared, and, most importantly, the love for his family.

He is survived by his wife, Jane Meriwether (Missy); brother, Alvin (Debbie); daughter, Lindsay (Chris); son, Taylor (Julie); and his seven grandchildren: Jane and Abby Mullin, Kate and Hugh Breeden, Isabelle, Ryan, and Will Thurman; nephews, Cameron Thurman (Stephanie), Asa Thurman, Carter Thurman (Meghan), David Meriwether (Olive), Steve Meriwether, Tommy Meriwether (Chelsea); and nieces, Leila Moore Brown (Will), Christina Meriwether Cropp (Brian) and Stephanie Meriwether Zebrowski (Greg). Glenn was predeceased by his parents; brother, Buddy Thurman; and sister, Gail Thurman Moore.

Our special thanks for the care provided by Capstone Hospice and their nurse, Ingrid, and especially to our wonderful caregiver and "jack of all trades," Miss Cookie.

A celebration of Glenn's life will be held in Atlanta on Sunday, December 14th at 2:00pm at Northside Methodist Church. Should you wish to honor Glenn's memory, please consider a donation to the Atlanta Humane Society (www.atlantahumane.org) or Homeward Bound Pet Rescue (www.hbpr.org).

I'm so disheartened to hear this, Glenn was the first person I met in the Courtyards before I bought my home and he was so welcoming; I left thinking how lovely the neighborhood was because of the people in it. My deepest condolences to his loved ones.

Beautiful tribute to the most wonderful husband, father, and friend. I have such fond memories of your dad, Lindsay - and our happy hours and the dogs and his stories and always making me laugh... I feel so lucky to have had the opportunity to get to know your dad, spending time at your house with your parents and at your grandmother's house, too, and being included in family dinners & gatherings. I adored your father and I'm truly sorry for everyone's loss - the patriarch and top of your tree!
