Gloria Ceasar Obituary

CEASAR, Gloria Emma

Gloria Emma Ceasar departed this life on Wednesday, January 28, 2026 at the age of 79. Born in New York City, she was the beloved daughter of Willie Mae "Lulu" Tassin and Leonard Ceasar, Sr. She is survived by her siblings: Barbara Age (Burnell), Ursula C. Morgan, Gilbert Ceasar (Anna), and Grace London. She was preceded in death by Leonard Ceasar (Sheila), Beverly Haynes, Joseph Ceasar, and Ronald Ceasar. She also leaves to cherish her memory her devoted goddaughter, Aliya Rheams; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Following high school, Gloria attended Job Corps in Oklahoma, where she distinguished herself as a top student. As a result of her academic excellence and work ethic, she received a job offer with Philco Ford in Philadelphia, where she worked for several years. She later returned to New Orleans and continued her professional career with the Urban League, remaining committed to service and professional growth.

Gloria later began her long and successful career with IBM in New Orleans. She subsequently transferred to Georgia, where she made Atlanta her home. During her tenure at IBM, Gloria developed systems that improved efficiency and saved the company money, earning professional recognition and opportunities to travel to train employees at other locations. She worked for IBM for several decades, spanning from the 1970s through the 1990s.

An avid traveler, Gloria explored Europe and the Caribbean and shared many of those journeys with her mother. She enjoyed landscaping and caring for her dogwood trees and had a deep love for nature, peaceful outdoor spaces, and New Orleans cuisine—especially po-boys. She also cherished lifelong friendships, particularly with Jerri, Earnestine, Clozell, and Charlotte.

Gloria was a faithful parishioner at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Decatur, Georgia, for many years, where she worshipped consistently and remained deeply connected to the parish community.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church, 1923 St. Philip Street, New Orleans, LA, on Saturday, February 7, 2026. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM, followed by Mass at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at Providence Memorial Park and Mausoleum. Arrangements are entrusted to D.W. Rhodes Funeral Home, 3933 Washington Ave. New Orleans, LA.

Rev. Jimmie Thomas Jr

February 8, 2026

On behalf of Jimmie and Mercedes Thomas' family, we offer our deepest sympathy and our prayer is that Almighty God will richly bless you and your entire family. We have fond memories of the Ceasar family. We played together and grew up together in the Desire Housing Projects during the 50s and 60s. Those were some good years, praise the Lord. We didn't interact with Gloria very much, she was one oldest. But played with Leonard, Joseph, Beverly and Ronald. Be Blessed! Jimmie Thomas Jr
