I met Mr. Thornhill shortly after I moved to East Point thirty-four years later. We met in the Post Office a number of times and I visited with him and talked about possible future needs for his service. There was absolutely no thought given to his not being available when my need came, since I am quite a bit older.
He impressed me with his professionalism and preciseness. Along with his family, he will be solely missed by entire community.
Our sincere sympathy goes out to his family and all who morns his death.

To the Family & Staff of Gus Thornhill:
I would like to express our sincere and heart-felt condolences. Gus was like family to us and we share in your sadness. I have known Gus since I was a little girl in East Point when he worked for Walker Funeral Home and transported my grandmother to Grady Hospital for doctor's appointments. I remember the pride we all felt when Gus and Pop became the first black police officers in East Point. I also recall the many times Gus was there for me and my husband when we lost love ones. He always treated us like family, and I am forever grateful to him and the Thornhill staff for their professional and compassionate services. I will always remember his smile and warm greeting whenever I saw Gus. Although this is a great loss to the entire community of East Point and all who knew him, I thank God for the time Gus was here because he left a legacy that will live forever.
