CONKWRIGHT, James Martin

James Martin Conkwright, age 82, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of dedication, wisdom, and love.

Born with a deep passion for learning and service, James devoted his life to education and to shaping the minds of future generations. He graduated from Eastern Kentucky University, went on to earn a master's degree from Georgetown College, and later completed his doctorate at East Texas A&M University. A lifelong educator, James found great purpose in his work and retired from the Georgia Department of Education after a distinguished career.

Before beginning his professional journey, James proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, achieving the rank of E5 Sergeant and receiving an honorable discharge. His commitment to service, both in the military and in education, defined his character throughout his life.

James shared a remarkable 55-year marriage with the love of his life, Candyce, who preceded him in death. Together, they built not only a beautiful life, but also an adventurous one, with their work and travels taking them to all seven continents. Their bond was one of deep love, mutual respect, and shared wonder at the world.

James is survived by his children: Jim Conkwright Jr., and his wife, Danielle, of Brentwood, TN, and their children, Alex, Josie, Rhys, and Mason; and Christy Adriaenssens, and her husband, Luc, of Frisco, TX, and their children, Kate and Jack. His legacy lives on in his children and grandchildren, who will carry forward the values he held dear.

James will be remembered for his intellect, kindness, steady presence, and the unwavering love he had for his family. He lived a full and meaningful life, marked by service, adventure, and a deep commitment to those he loved.

There will be a funeral service at the Catholic Church of St. Ann, in Marietta, at 11 AM, on December 9. Friends and family are invited.
