James SHERRILL Obituary

Family-Placed Death Notice

SHERRILL, James JAMES EDWARD "JIM" SHERRILL Mr. James Edward "Jim" Sherrill of Peachtree City, GA passed away on September 6, 2012 at the age of 78. Mr. Sherrill graduated from Lenoir, North Carolina High School in 1952. He later enlisted in the United States Army, serving with the United States Army Security Agency, Europe in Frankfurt, a/m, West Germany. He was there during the Hungarian uprising, Soviet Russia, and in reference to that particular time would smile and comment, "To say the very least, that was a very interesting experience for this old mountain boy!, very interesting." Upon his discharge from the armed services in 1958, he was awarded a full music scholarship as a trumpeter at Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington, a Jesuit college. He always bragged that being Jesuit educated was the highlight of his formal educational background. After completing his undergraduate studies, he attended law school. Jim later became employed in the Long Bell/International Paper Co. furniture and kitchen cabinet industry, and was transferred to Peach-tree City, Georgia. He returned to law school, and was admitted to the practice of law in 1974 practicing in Peachtree City. He became a member of the Griffin Judicial Circuit District Attorney's Office and served as an assistant prosecutor until his retirement in 2002. Mr. Sherrill was a Mason and always maintained an avid and active interest in a multitude of subjects, including classical music, art, history, amateur archaeology, literature and as a musician. Trombone was his instrument of choice. He played in a number of local bands and also enjoyed writing. As a western artist, he studied and specialized in the Native American Indians of the Northwest Plateau country. He was multi-talented, and often referred to as "a true renaissance man" by friends who also enjoyed his keen sense of humor. He is survived by his wife, Sandra, formerly Sandra Lee Neudorfer of Spokane, Washington; a daughter Roxanna Lynn of Fayetteville, GA and a son, Edward Lewis Sherrill, II of Douglasville, GA. Mr. Sherrill was cremated. The family will receive friends during a Celebration of Life, Wednesday, September 12, 2012 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Carl J. Mowell & Son, Peachtree City, GA. In lieu of flowers, his family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society. www.mowellfuneralhome.com
