MACKENNA, Jane
Jane Ann Adams MacKenna, 90, of Smyrna, GA, passed away on Wednesday, January 15, 2025 at home, surrounded by her loving family. Jane was born on August 24, 1934 in Richmond, Kentucky to Marion Forbes Adams, Sr. and Mary Katherine McCord Adams. Jane led an idyllic childhood in a small college town. She walked to school, Madison Model (Model Laboratory school), the teaching school K-12, on the campus of Eastern Kentucky University. She went on to graduate from the University of Tennessee with a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1956. After graduation, she moved with a few friends and rented a house in Ansley Park in Atlanta, GA. Jane taught Georgia history to 8th graders at Bass High School. Soon she met her future husband, William J. MacKenna. They were married in 1962 and she retired from teaching.
The couple had three children and devoted their time and energy to raising them. Jane was active in volunteering in her community through the Junior League of Atlanta, the First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta, the High Museum of Art, The Atlanta Opera, The Peachtree Garden Club and the schools of her children. Jane was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Society of Boonesborough, National Society of the Colonial Dames of America, The Piedmont Driving Club, and her beloved "Sewing Club". She loved to garden, read, entertain, decorate, design homes, travel and exercised with two of her friends for almost 50 years.
She is survived by her three children, Jay (Karla), Ann, and Liz; along with many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted in Richmond, Kentucky. A memorial service will be conducted at the First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta, 1328 Peachtree St., NE, Atlanta, GA 30309 on Sunday, February 2, 2025 at 2 o'clock.
