Jay Goldsmith Obituary

GOLDSMITH, Jay

Thompson

Jay Thompson Goldsmith, age 82, of Atlanta, Georgia, passed away peacefully December 12, 2025, at Piedmont Hospital, surrounded by family after a long illness.

Born on February 22, 1943 in San Antonio, Texas to Jack and Rachael Thompson, Jay spent the first five years of her life in Beeville, Texas until she moved with her family to Jacksonville, Florida. She married Alan McDowell Goldsmith on June 18, 1964 in Atlanta, Georgia, and they shared 61 years of marriage.

For years, she worked at a small bookstore at her church out of faith and her love of reading. She gardened, always had a Westie by her side, and she loved cooking and hosted a great many events and parties. She loved nothing more than reading a thrilling mystery while sitting on the beach. She was fiercely competitive and passed her love for games, competition, cooking, animals, and the beach to her children, grandchildren, and her writer, husband.

She is survived by her husband, Alan M. Goldsmith, her children, Elise and Mac, grandchildren, Kate and Alan, and several cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her younger sister, Ann, her beloved father, her mother, her Aunt Glenn and Uncle Gene, and many dear friends who sought the ever after before her.

A funeral will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, January 22, 2026 at St. Phillips Cathedral in the chapel in Atlanta, Georgia.

Her love of her dogs, Westies in particular, cooking, hosting, and reading a good book by the beach will live on in her children and grandchildren.
