Jeremy Williams Obituary

Jeremy Williams, the former Greenville, Ga., high football coach who battled ALS for almost 15 years, died Sunday morning, his family said. Williams was 50.

Williams was named the National High School Football Association's coach of the year in 2010, his final season on the sidelines, when he led Greenville to an 8-3 record and playoff appearance while doing his job in a motorized wheelchair and struggling to communicate.

Williams was diagnosed with ALS, also called Lou Gehrig's Disease, in 2008 and continued to lead Greenville for three more seasons. His 2009 Greenville team was 10-0 in the regular season and won what remains the school's most recent region championship.

I watched the home makeover years after it aired from MA and fell in love with this man, Jeremy´s spirit and his entire family´s spirit !! My heart Welled up. I knew without knowing he lived a lot longer than a year or 2 because of the strength in his spirit and because of ALL THE LOVE! Love ALWAYS LIVES ON ETERNALLY! He is LOVING YOU NOW & in EVERY MOMENT. What a gift he was & will forever be to this world! Makes me stop and realize how truly ungrateful I´ve been to the people I love& to the life I´ve been given. I will strive to be an iota of the person he was and people your family are now. May your family find peace and may you feel Jeremy and know he never truly left. His consciousness and spirit are eternal.

Hello,
I watched the documentary on Coach Jeremy this morning, and I can say it was absolutely beautiful. His strength and determination was something to behold.

My Dad passed away due to Parkinsons diseasun which he struggled with for 8 years. The similarities between ALS and Parkinsons disease is quite remarkable. I never realized this before. Watching your husbands health decline was like watching my Dad.

I only wish that I had the doc sooner. I believe it would have helped me in the long run.

I pray all is well with your amazing family.

Williams Family, I too coached for 30 years. Jeremy proved the core of what coaching is all about...it not about the game, it's about teaching our young to be driven to be a great human being. Just a he did in his life. I also watched the special on him and saw great leadership and love for his team and his opponents. Jeremy is the appitimy of a coach/teacher and man of God . He will live forever in our hearts and is waiting for his family at the right hand of God. I feel that being a coach is much like being Jesus. No,I'm not comparing coaches or saying coaches are Jesus, but Jesus was and is the greatest coach of all. Jesus led by example and taught how you should love your fellow man or woman. Coaching, to me, is the most giving job I have ever done. Jeremy actually is inspiring me to get back into coaching, so serve God. To teach team/family. Let's get back to being 1.

Jennifer, Jacob and Josie, saying I'm so sorry for your loss seems inadequate. I just finished watching 'Season of a Lifetime'.
How he maintained his Faith in the face of adversity...what an absolute inspiration to all!!
The way those young men spoke of him is truly heartwarming. So many looked to him like a father, his story shall live on through them and all he touched -- what a great legacy to leave behind!!

I know he is missed by many but what a glorious reunion there will be in HEAVEN one day! I have no doubt he'll be anxiously waiting at the gates to welcome each and everyone of those he loved!

GOD bless!

My husband and I just watched the movie about Coach Williams. We were truly inspired and motivated by his life and faith. The life lessons that he taught the young men that he coached went far beyond football. His legacy lives on in the hearts and minds of all who came to know him. I have also lost someone to that horrific disease ALS. My son, Wells Black suffered for 13 years and just passed away on May 10, 2022. My main comfort is knowing he is healed and healthy now. He is whole. His faithful companion, his 11 year old lab just passed away and knowing they are together in Heaven helps me, too. My deepest sympathy is with you and your children. God bless you. I just today, heard of your husband and your love story. I am sorry for the pain and sorrow that I know you must be feeling, and I pray The Father gives you peace and comfort. We lost a father figure to ALS over ten years ago, and know how difficult the disease is, but I also know how faithful our Heavenly Father is. Your story, your testimony will reverberate and speak to untold numbers. May He bless you with His love and Presence, till you're with Jeremy again.

I spent many a happy Saturday at The Liberty Bowl watching Jeremy, aka "The Georgia Assassin," lead the Memphis State defense. What a great player who made the most of every bit of athleticism in his body.

Much, much more than a college athlete he went on to live a life of service and was and is an inspiration to more people than we will ever know. He loved the Lord and his life was a testament to his faith.

Prayers for his wife, children and all who loved him. What a comfort to know that he is now well and whole and with his savior.
