Joan Schrampfer Obituary

SCHRAMPFER, Joan Joan (Tarkington) Schrampfer (JoJo to her extended family, and those who adored her), age 89, passed away on October 21, 2015. Joan was born on March 30, 1926, in Stanford, KY, where she was also raised. She was the middle daughter of James and Maude Tarkington. Just like in a 1940's movie, she met her first husband, Eldon Schrampfer, on a blind date while working at a drugstore soda shop. As the wife of an Air Force officer and pilot, she traveled the world extensively, having four children, each born in different states, and then eventually settling in Marietta, GA in 1963. She was an active partner in two family businesses. She and Eldon Schrampfer were married 44 years before he was taken too soon. A few years later, on another blind date, she met William H. (Bill) Couch, Sr., a former Air Force officer and WWII POW. They were married for twenty years and were avid ballroom dancers. Very much the 'social butterfly', she won the hearts of everyone she met. She was preceded in death by husband Eldon, her son Jim and grandson Jarrod. Joan Schrampfer is survived by her loving children, son Jon Schrampfer of Powder Springs, GA, daughter Vicki Norman of Marietta, GA and son, Don Schrampfer of Marietta, GA, as well as nine most wonderful grandchildren: John Schrampfer, Erich Schrampfer, Jason Schrampfer, Julie Baker, Justin Schrampfer, Brad Norman, Andrew Schrampfer, Tyler Schrampfer and Jackson Schrampfer. She delighted in the great love of her thirteen great-grandchildren, Lacy, Jessica, Callan, Geneva, Dean, Bella, Grayson, Sydney, Brody, Lilah, Aubrey, Hudson, Caroline and another on the way. She is also survived by husband Bill Couch and sisters, Dean Lindeman and Sue Schmitt. One of her greatest pleasures was to host the annual family Easter Egg hunt at her home, with kids running everywhere. Her spirit will live on forever. Online condolences, may be sent to - carmichaelfuneralhomes.com. In lieu of flowers, a small donation to her church, The First Presbyterian, 189 Church St, Marietta, GA 30060 would be appreciated in her honor.
