Funeral plans have been set for Georgia Congressman John Lewis, who died Friday, July 17 after a battle with cancer. He was 80 years old.
Lewis, a Democrat who represented Atlanta in Congress, played an outsized role on America's stage, including the Selma march that galvanized support for the 1965 Voting Rights Act.
The funeral for Congressman John Lewis will be Thursday, July 30, 2020 at Atlanta's historic Ebenezer Baptist Church, during a nearly weeklong celebration of life that will include stops in his hometown of Troy, Alabama, the historic church near Selma's Edmund Pettus bridge, Montgomery, Ala., and Washington. His casket will lie in state at the U.S. Capitol, the Alabama State Capitol and the Georgia State Capitol. More details
