John Potts Obituary

Family-Placed Death Notice

POTTS, John JOHN PHILLIP POTTS Dec. 16, 1970 - Dec. 14, 2009 A gift from heaven for almost 39 years is at peace. John Phillip Potts of Dunwoody passed away after years of putting up an amazing fight. John was a special needs son to Martha and Phillip Potts and the beloved brother to his sister Laura. In addition to his immediate family, John is survived by his Aunt Rebecca Reeves of Richmond, VA, Uncle Sonny and Aunt Wynelle Potts of College Park, GA and Aunt Dorothy and Uncle Tommy Kindel of Acworth, GA and many cousins. At his home in Dunwoody, John loved his dogs, cats and pet goldfish, the brightest room in the house, his bedroom, watching "Snow White", sitting outside on his deck listening to the pond fountain, and reading his picture books. Most of all, John enjoyed riding on his "school bus" with Tyrone to the Dekalb Services Center to see all of his special friends and teachers. JohnJohn, as his sister liked to call him, was an innocent angel who showed those that knew him what deep love was all about. He and Laura had a special bond from the time he was brought home after his birth when she declared him "my baby John". Through all their years, they were a team who enjoyed spending time together. Taking little road trips, just the two of them, for a dozen Krispy Kreme or a Happy Meal from "Donalds", being friends and enjoying time with each other was what they did. He referred to his Mom and his sister as a conjoined "Momma-Waura". John also possessed a quirky sense of humor that could make anyone smile. A memorable time was after having minor surgery, a doctor visited him in his hospital room for a quick check¨up. Upon seeing him, John declared, in all seriousness, "You broke it!" The doctor's smiling response, after a bit of shock, "I didn't break it, I fixed it". Of course, John got better quite nicely. His family wishes to extend a very special thanks to the staff of Northside Hospital-Atlanta, especially those on the second floor, for their extraordinary care and love. You all touched our lives forever. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Dekalb Services Center Auxiliary at 2660 Osborne Road NE, Atlanta, GA 30319-2832. All funeral arrangements will be made by H.M. Patterson and Son, Oglethorpe. A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 19, 2009 at 3:00pm in the chapel at Dunwoody United Methodist Church on Mount Vernon Road. John will be interred within church grounds. Visitation with the family will be held one hour before the chapel service.

John was always our favorite person to visit in your home. I have never forgotten his "man" greeting and him taking my hand and putting it to his head. We know you miss him terribly and he is a loss for us all.

Laura and Martha there are no words that can fill the hole in your hearts right now. It hurt Bill and I so much that we could not be there to share this time of saddness with you. Please know that even though Alexandria went on behalf of the family our heart and spirt was there with you. We will always remember John as the young man that had a joy within that shined out to touch the hearts of those that knew him.
Hope to visit with you when Bill and I get better. Love, Carmen, Bill and Joshua. May the Lords Peace be with you all.

To the Potts family,
I'm so sorry for your loss. Our daughter went to school with John and was just a year younger. She went to heaven 9 years ago, so I know the pain you're going through. But I pray for God's comfort, and for many good memories of John's life to fill your minds.

Johnny Angel will see how lovely heaven will be. He's singing & dancing with the angels now, and I will never hear "Rubber Ducky" without thinking of him. My condolences on your loss.
