Loraine Livesey Obituary


Family-Placed Death Notice

LIVESEY, Loraine Loraine (Boland) Livesey, formerly of Atlanta's Sherwood Forest area, died at her home on St. Simons Island, Georgia, on March 22. She was 99. She was born in Brooklyn, New York, on October 22, 1911. She went through the New York city school system and later attended, and is a graduate of, St Lawrence University in Canton, NY, where she was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. She was employed by the Union Dime Savings Bank in New York city for several years. In 1941, she married Dr. Kells Boland of Atlanta and they raised two children, Frank Kells and Loraine. Dr. Boland died in 1967. During the 1950s and 1960s, she was an active volunteer for civic causes in Atlanta. She was president of Fulton County Medical Society Auxiliary, president of the Atlanta Council PTA, Chairman of the woman's division of the Community Chest, president of the Northwest Georgia Girl Scout Council, and she was named Atlanta Woman of the Year for Civil Defense in 1955. She was also active nationally and locally in the Easter Seals Society and Kappa Kappa Gamma. She ran unsuccessfully for the Atlanta School Board and the Georgia State Senate. In 1970, she married Everett Livesey and in 1975, they retired to St Simons Island. Mr. Livesey died in 1988. She is survived by daughter Loraine Boland (Ray Nelson) of Bellingham, Washington, and son Frank Boland (Beth) of Falls Church, Virginia, and step-daughter Laura Moran (Kevin) of Chattanooga, Tennessee, six grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at St. Simons United Methodist Church on May 18.
