Louise MOORE

1927 - 2018

MOORE, Louise Elizabeth "Betty" Dr. Louise Elizabeth "Betty" Moore of Evans, GA, formerly of Stone Mountain, GA went home to be with her Lord and Savior on December 23, 2018. Born to Walter and Marie Moore of Nunez, Ga, on April 10, 1927, Betty received a B.S. in Business Administration from Georgia College and State University in 1948. She received a M. Ed in Reading Education from Emory University in 1965, a Spec. Ed. in Curriculum and Supervision in 1968, and a D. Ed. in Reading Education in 1971from the University of Georgia. Dr. Moore enjoyed a lucrative career in education where her desire was to instill a love for learning, especially reading, in children and adults. She taught grades one through four and some secondary commercial subjects for Cobb County, Marietta City, and DeKalb County Schools before assuming the position of Assistant Director and eventually, Director of DeKalb County Reading Center. In August 1983, she was promoted to the DeKalb County Board of Education as Assistant Superintendent for Instructional Services and Supporting Programs. She completed her career in this position while DeKalb County Schools were ranked 2nd in the nation for education. Upon retirement, Dr. Moore volunteered as an adult literacy teacher. An active member of Stone Mountain United Methodist Church, Betty served in many capacities including Sunday school teacher. She was also an active member of several professional and academic organizations including, Kappa Delta Pi, Phi Kappa Phi, Kappa Delta Epsilon, Alpha Delta Kappa, and DeKalb County and Georgia Associations of Educators. Preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Walter "Jack" Moore, and her husband of 58 years, Robert "Kelsey" Moore, Betty is survived by her sister-in-law, Mildred Moore of Swainsboro, a niece, Nancy (Barry) Mauldin of Appling, and a nephew, Tim Moore of Swainsboro, in addition to three great-nieces, Abby, Emily, and Kelsey Mauldin of Appling, and one great-nephew, Cody Moore of Appling. The family will receive friends at 3:00 pm, Saturday, December 29 in the chapel at Chapman Funeral Home, 427 North Main St., Swainsboro, Ga. with a memorial service following at 4:00 pm. If lieu of flowers and if so desired, donations in Mrs. Moore's memory may be made to the Nunez Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 1145, Nunez, GA, 30448.
