Lucille JORDAN Obituary
Family-Placed Death Notice
JORDAN, Lucille DR. LUCILLE FISHER GALLOWAY JORDAN Dr. Lucille Fisher Galloway Jordan, aged 91, a longtime Atlanta resident, died on 15 Feb. after a mercifully short illness. A classroom teacher before receiving her doctorate at UGA, she worked as Dir. of Program Dev. for the Atlanta schools, Associate State Superintendent of the Georgia schools, and Prof. of Education at UGA. She also served as national president of the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development and on the Rockefeller Council for the Arts. Funeral services will be at 10 am on Thurs., 21 Feb. at the Mount Moriah Baptist Church, Calvert, North Carolina; a memorial service will follow at Dunwoody Baptist Church in March. Survivors incl. a daughter, son-in-law and much loved granddaughter, Nicole, David and Rachel Ming Herrup, numerous nieces (Marcia and Maria Johnson, Monalynn Carter, Paulette Lankford) and a nephew, Kendall Glazer. She was preceded in death by her husband, F.L.S. Jordan. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Heifer Foundation and the Global Fund for Women.

Lucille was a great lady,fine educator, and a good friend. She was President of ASCD in 1981-82, and I was privileged to serve on the Executive Council when she was president. We kept in touch at Christmas, and I last heard from her in Christmas 2012, She will be missed and remembered with a smile.

Nicole: I have just now learned of your mother's death and want to let you know how sorry I am. Your parents were delightful and it always was a treat to see them in Atlanta and your mother in Washington. It is astonishing that I first met your mother in McAfee Hall 42 years ago! I extend my heartfelt sympathy to you and your family.

Fred and Lucille were my host parents during my year at U.Ga as a Rotary Scholar. The warmest and most generous of people. I will always be grateful for Fred's humour, frivolity and sincerity and for Lucille's gentle touch and genuine interest in me, my studies and my thoughts. As a school Principal I can only say that my initial interest in pedagogy and classroom relations was fuelled by Lucille's fascintaing insights and reflections. Our warmest thoughts are with Nicole and the family.

Lucille was a great person and accomplished so much during her stay on earth. Heaven will be a better place with her there with so many friends and family. It was a honor to know her and call her my aunt. Love Maria Johnson
