WATSON, Madge

October 28, 2025

Madge Elizabeth Watson, 81, of Atlanta, Georgia, passed away on October 28, 2025. Born in Slocomb, Alabama, she was the daughter of Wilmer and Elizabeth Smith Watson. Madge shared her mother's birthday, and their celebrations together for more than 60 years were a cherished family tradition.

After earning a degree in Mathematics from Florida State University, Madge moved to Atlanta in 1969, where she built a long and successful actuarial career. She worked for 42 years with Cousar Associates, ultimately owning and operating the firm until her retirement in 2016.

A lifelong Methodist, Madge grew up at Slocomb First United Methodist Church and later became an active member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church in Decatur. She served faithfully on the Serving Ministry Committee, as Church Treasurer and with the United Women in Faith. In 2021, Madge was honored as the recipient of the Doris Paul Purpose Award, presented annually by the women of the United Methodist North Georgia Conference to the best all-around woman servant leader. She also enjoyed ringing handbells with the Wesley Ringers and singing with the Afternoon Choir.

Madge loved life fully, embracing her motto "Live, Laugh, Love." She found joy in flying her Cessna planes, spending time with family, and serving on mission trips to Liberia, Haiti and Honduras.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Ard Watson. Survivors include her sister-in-law, Virginia Watson, Americus, GA; nephew, Charles Watson (Jennifer), Charlotte, NC; nieces, Eleanor Davis (Don), Oxford, MS and Weatherly Summers (Stephen), Auburn, AL; numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins, as well as many dear friends.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on December 20, 2025 at Oak Grove United Methodist Church. Memorials may be made to Oak Grove United Methodist Church - Madge E. Watson Memorial for the Serving Ministry or to a charity of your choice.
