HARTMAN, Malcolm "Mike" Richard
Malcolm "Mike" Richard Hartman, a true renaissance man, passed away on Monday, October 14, 2024, following a surgery necessitated by cancer.
Mike was the second child and first son of Nancy Jeffris Hartman and Richard "Dick" Stair Hartman. He was born in 1944 in Janesville, WI. After graduating, from Beloit College in 1966, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and had the good fortune of being stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War. Upon his return, he lived briefly in Cleveland, OH, before settling in Atlanta, GA, where he lived for over 50 years. In Atlanta, he received a master's degree from Georgia State University and established a long career working with employee stock ownership plans and business valuations.
Mike was an All-American cross-country runner for Beloit College, and he continued running through much of his adult life. At age 36, he ran the Marine Corps Marathon in Washington D. C. in 2 hours and 36 minutes, just 25 minutes behind the winner of the race. In addition to running and involvement in the Atlanta Track Club, he loved playing golf at Ansley Golf Club, where he was a member for over 25 years.
He had a love of art of all types, played banjo, loved music and theater, traveling and devoured books. He volunteered and supported organizations that help with homelessness and hunger.
Mike is survived by his wife of 18 years, Susan Dohrmann Hartman; his first wife, Mary Schroer; his second wife, Ellen Weaver Hartman; his sister, Nan Grossman; and his brother, Landis Hartman. He is also survived by his four daughters, Monica LaVold (Timothy and sons, Parker and Noah), Emily Rutherford (William and daughters, Maddie and Reece), Sarah Stennett (Kellen and children, Leyton and Serenne Meier, Sade, Kai and Gavin Stennett), and Anna Tipton (Andy); and by his three stepchildren, Christine Dohrmann Priddy (Shawn and daughter, Erin Moon ), Betsy Dohrmann Marotta (Jim and children, Will and Carolin ), and David Dohrmann (Chrissy and sons, Thomas and James).
