Margaret McCune Obituary

Margaret Virginia Graves McCune was born Feb. 24, 1925 in Luverne, MN, the third of five children (Dorothy, Harriet, Phyllis and Donald) born to Mabel and Leland Graves of Eau Claire, WI. Her parents passed on their love of faith, family and music to their children.

Margaret was creative and artistic, learning to play the piano and violin for which she earned a B.A. in Music. She also knitted, crocheted and sewed for herself and her family, and had a life long passion for painting ceramics.

Margaret sang in the church choir and was a pre-school Sunday school teacher who also sang in a trio with her sisters Dorothy and Harriet. Margaret ("Muggs") married George Washington McCune ("Mac") and they served in Spring Valley, NY and later in Atlanta, where George was the Pastoral Care Minister at Wieuca Road Baptist Church. "Mac" and "Muggs" were married on Aug. 1, 1947 in Eau Claire, a partnership that lasted 69 years. Early in their married life, they were missionaries to Japan for five years.

Margaret is survived by her children: Sharon, Scott {wife Pamela Bedford McCune) and Stephen (wife Elizabeth Freeman McCune); her grandchildren: Christopher Scott McCune, Kimberly McCune Thomas (husband Derrick), Courtney McCune Cockrell (husband Keith), Shaun Stephen McCune and Shelley Alyse McCune and her two great grandsons: James Walker Thomas and Lincoln Scott Cockrell.

Her family wishes to acknowledge our appreciation for the kind and loving care given by the extraordinary team in the Memory Care Unit of Brookdale in Historic Roswell where Mom peacefully passed away on Saturday, May 19th We thank you all.

The family will receive friends from 1-3 p.m., Friday, June 1st at H.M. Patterson & Son Oglethorpe in Brookhaven (4550 Peachtree St., Atlanta 30319) followed by a private family service at Arlington Cemetery in Sandy Springs, officiated by Rev. Bob Williamson.
