Family-Placed Death Notice
MACEY, Morris MORRIS WILLIAM MACEY Morris William Macey, age 89, of Atlanta, GA died Wednesday August 29, 2012. Morris was born in Camilla, GA to Isadore and Frieda Macey. He attended Camilla High School, received his JD (Phi Beta Kappa) and AB degrees from the University of Georgia, and LLM from Harvard University. After law school, Morris moved to Atlanta where he began his illustrious legal career. Morris was admitted to the state bar association in 1943 at which time he began serving in the Army. He was recipient of the eponymous Consumer Credit Counseling Service's Morris Macey Distinguished Service Award, The State Bar of Georgia's Creditor's Rights Section's Morris W. Macey Lifetime Achievement Award, and the City of Atlanta Phoenix Award. He was president of the Commercial Law League of America and served on the Board of Trustees of Fisk University and was a Commissioner on Uniform State Laws. In addition, he received the David W. Pollard Achievement Award and an AV rating by Martindate-Hubbell; he was former chairman of the subcommittee on crimes of the ABA, chairman of the committee on Revision of Uniform Fraudulent Transfer Act, a member of the following committees: Revised Uniform Limited Partnership Act, Uniform Exemptions Act, Uniform Consumer Credit Act, Partnerships in Bankruptcy, National Conference of Bar Presidents, and the National Association of Bankruptcy Trustees among others. He was predeceased by his sister Annette Goldner and his wife Dora and is survived by his sons: Rex Phillip Macey, Morris William Macey Jr., and Jonathan Rosenfield Macey; Grandchildren: Maxwell, Morgan, Meredith, Joshua, Alexandra, Zachary, Noah and Samuel. Services will be held at 1:30 P.M. on Friday, August 31, 2012 at The Temple. Interment will follow at Crest Lawn Memorial Park. I just found out Mr. Macey had passed. I worked for him for 3 years and we had a good relationship. He was a great attorney and a spirited man. I will miss those bright shiney blue eyes. God Bless his soul.

Morris was clearly an excellent attorney who helped establish a very high standard of excellence for other lawyers such as myself who were trying to get established in the bankruptcy practice. He will be sorely missed.

I was lucky to have known Morris. Morris was a mentor to many lawyers including me. He was a gentleman and a pillar of the legal community. Our lives and the legal profession greatly benefited fromm Morris. His impact will be felt forever. He will be sorely missed.
