Patricia King Obituary

Patricia Steed King, a state employee known as an advocate for the elderly and vulnerable adults, died Wednesday, June 30. She was 66.

King is credited with transforming Georgia through a special unit in the Division of Aging Services and a training program she created to teach police and others to spot abuse of elderly and vulnerable adults.

Behind the scenes, she was a driving force who helped transform state laws to make it easier to prosecute elder abuse cases. That work led the General Assembly in 2015 to adopt a special resolution recognizing her contributions. Her expertise was also recognized nationwide.

A funeral service is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 10 at Johns Creek Baptist Church. Visitation is scheduled for 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, July 9 at Crowell Brothers Funeral Home in Peachtree Corners.

Pat was a good friend of mine in high school. I have great memories of her. She was kind and funny. I was very interested reading about all her life´s accomplishments, not surprising at all. I know that she will be missed.

May your hearts be comforted, filled with priceless memories. Pat was a precious, dedicated advocate who offered laughter along with her wisdom, kindness in the most difficult of circumstances. She gave her all to those that she served, expanded her reach far beyond her local area. I am so thankful for the impact that she has made throughout GA and far beyond to improve the lives of the most vulnerable. She will indeed be missed as a professional and as a friend to so many!

Sending sympathy to Patricia's family. I knew Patricia and all her family from way back in the 1950's when we were neighbors on Lockhaven Circle in Atlanta. She was almost like an additional child to my family as she was always at my house to play with my two oldest girls Bea and Patti. Life changes and she and her family moved away and we lost contact over the years but always have fond memories of the long ago years.

Pat was my mentor and friend, we worked side by side for the past 6 years. I was in awe of the prominent people she knew or came to know as she worked to better GA for our most vulnerable population. She made traveling fun and always teased me about how big my suitcase was, since she can pack for a week in a carry-on bag or even a backpack. She will be missed greatly! We will continue her work to achieve her goals, and we will do it in her honor.

My funny, passionate, ride or die cousin. My life from the age of 3 months (yes, you were younger than me) was made so much better because I got to do it with you. So many stories throughout the years. I love you!

Pat was a friend from our days growing up in Sagamore Hills. We reconnected later in life to ride bikes along the Silver Comet. Pat was an amazing and dedicated woman. I was in awe of all she had done. It was a honor and blessing to know her. To her family and friends, I know she will be missed. I am am heartbroken.

I first got to know Pat through our membership in the Atl Legal Nurse Association. We soon learned she was known by my hubs grandmother. I followed & admired her career fighting for GA´s most vulnerable elder adults as I too had transitioned my career to adults with aging parents. I am saddened to learn of her sudden passing. I am thankful to know we share a faith & assurance that we shall one day see each other again. Well done, Pat, you will be greatly missed!
