Paul Hackett Obituary

Paul Hoskins Hackett, 23, of Atlanta, Georgia, passed away Sunday, April 8th from complications related to the extended use of chemotherapy medications used in his fight against Leukemia. With every challenge he faced, his resilience and passion for squeezing every ounce out of what life had to offer carried him through these hurdles and inspired all those with whom he met - his spirit lives on within us all.

Paul was a dedicated son and incredible older brother. There was very little separation between the two brothers throughout all their activities. They shared a great many friends from Atlanta, GA, to Oxford, MS, to Dallas, TX. He touched the lives of many with his ability to bring an increased level of joy by always creating laughter and putting people at ease. His "bull in a China shop" zeal for life is best manifested by the incredible number of activities he enjoyed and the friends that he acquired throughout his various stages of growth. His impact can be seen by the smile created on all the faces of the people he encountered.

Paul began his academic career attending the Atlanta Speech School, then matriculating and graduating from The Lovett School, where he was a four year letterman for the acclaimed Lovett Wrestling Team. He attended the University of Mississippi and Oglethorpe University. Paul was an enthusiastic and proud member of Sigma Chi Fraternity, Eta Chapter at Ole Miss and a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Atlanta, GA. He has cultivated deep, lasting friendships at every stop and Paul's parents wish to thank all for being an integral part of his short but fulfilling life.

Paul is survived by his parents - father Paul Brent Hackett, mother Nancy Brumley Robitaille and step father Dan Robitaille, brother Michael Harrison Hackett, step-bother Alex Robitaille, Great-Grandmother Charlotte Hackett, Grandparents Michael and Cheryl Hackett, Grandmother Sarah Ash, God-grandfather Roger Cowart; Aunts and Uncles Brad and Marie Foster, George and Cal Jennison, Marc and Kristen Magod, Todd and Joanne Ash, Scott Ash, Colin and Carmen Morris, and Hume Cole; Cousins Nicholas, Drayton and Ben Foster; Jay, David, Christie, Kaki, Jessie, Katie and Hannah Jennison; Andrew, Ben, Caroline and Rebecca Magod; Taylor and Tristan Ash; Bianca Ash; Hatcher Morris; Mason and Gavin Cole; The Lovett Men, Ole Miss Sigs, Atlanta crowd, and of course his compadre Ellis Murray.

The funeral will be a private family service at Trinity Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, donations to honor Paul's life can be made in his name to the The Lovett School or the William Magee Center for Wellness, the charity of choice for the Sigma Chi Fraternity, Eta Chapter - University of Mississippi.

Paul was like a little brother to me, always wanting to listen to new music or show me some new kicks he had gotten. Even though I saw him as a little brother, I looked up to him. How unwavering loyalty and desire for happiness was constant and was so evident every time you saw him. I will miss you Paul!

Hey big boy!

I recently had a real life experience of seeing THE LIGHT . Or going to the other side. Everyone seemed very happy over there. I am sure I will see you again sooner than you expect. That will be a very special moment for me but every time we shared the spotlight of life together it was a very special moment.

I always and will continue to think of you as the most mannerly, kind, and classy young man of the family including all your BUDS.

Your leaving early will create a void in the family never to be replaced. We will all be with you in spirit and spirits. A toast to the most.

GOD SPEED!

Coach Hackett and Family,

Our most heartfelt condolences for your loss. Paul was a wonderful young man with a limitless future ahead of him. I remember him running around the wrestling room as a kid and I was very impressed with the young man he had become when I saw him at a Lovett wrestling alumni reception two years ago. He left an indelible mark on those around him and will be greatly missed. May you find peace in time knowing that he is now in a better place.
