Pauline EDWARDS Obituary

EDWARDS, Pauline Pauline Edwards (80) of Tucker died peacefully Sunday evening, December 30, 2018, surrounded by her family. Pauline had a true heart for people. For her family and friends this is a loss beyond words. She was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, niece, aunt, cousin and friend. Pauline is predeceased by her parents, Willie Fred Barwick and Ruth Cribbs Barwick; her younger sister and only sibling, Winifred Fish; a nephew, Charles Fish, Jr.; her in-laws, Samuel F. and Altha Mae Edwards; a brother-in-law, William Thomas Edwards; and many beloved aunts and uncles and cousins. She is survived by her husband, Walter Edwards, of Tucker; a son, Keith Edwards, of Tucker; a daughter, Alice Keheley (John), of Loganville; two granddaughters, Hannah Keheley and Lauren Keheley, of Loganville; a beloved aunt, Frances Jane Cribbs, of Decatur; niece, Juli Fish, of Tallahassee, Florida; sister-in-law, Josephine Edwards, of Orlando, FL; nephew, William T. "Tom" Edwards, Jr. (Melissa), of St. Augustine, FL; nieces, Karen Jo Hill (Leland) of Orlando, FL, and Sarah Anne Perkins (Curt) of Coral Springs, FL; and many much loved cousins. Pauline was born January 16, 1938, in Thomasville, Georgia, as Alice Pauline Barwick, and grew up in Jacksonville, Florida. She went to Southside Grammar School and graduated from Landon High School in 1955. She began working at the Atlantic National Bank in Jacksonville in June of 1954 and began taking American Institute of Banking courses after high school. On June 29, 1963, she married Walter Edwards. In July 1966 she left the Atlantic Bank where she maintained control of confidential commercial loan files and reports to devote her full attention to her family. In 1985 she returned to work with NUS Corporation for more than six years and Dynamac Corporation in downtown Atlanta in the late 1990s. She retired from The Salvation Army Atlanta Temple Corps in the early 2000s. Pauline was always happy to pitch in and volunteer at her children's schools, Rehoboth Elementary and Briarlake Elementary. She especially loved volunteering in the library. She and her husband helped keep the nursery at their church, Briarlake Baptist, for a number of years until the early 1980s. She loved to talk to her plants and flowers and tell them how pretty they were and to feed the birds and hummingbirds in her yard. Pauline had great compassion for others. She was smart, witty, a great listener and a rock of strength for her family. She won a battle with soft tissue sarcoma in 2011-2012, but lost her recent battle with carsinosarcoma. Even with her bouts with cancer, Pauline never had a dark or gloomy day, always positive and trusting the Lord. One of her favorite quotes was by Etienne De Grellet, a Quaker missionary, "I shall pass this way but once; any good that I can do or kindness I can show to any human being; let me do it now. Let me not defer nor neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again." The family will receive friends at Noon, Saturday, January 5, at A.S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home with a service to follow at 1:30 p.m. in the chapel with interment at Floral Hills Memory Gardens. Online condolences may be made at www.ASTurner.com
