Philip Bush Obituary

BUSH, Philip Philip Scott Bush, 60, of Atlanta, passed away on Sunday, September 13th in Brookhaven. Phil was born in Reno, Nevada to Mildred (née Botwood) and Ralph Howe Bush on July 10th, 1960. Being a son of an Air Force officer, he lived in several places all over the world including Germany, England, and Texas before finally settling in Sarasota, Florida as a teenager. He attended Pine View School then went on to receive his bachelor's degree in Industrial Management at the Georgia Institute of Technology. His first job out of college was in manufacturing software sales with American Software. From there, he worked for Bachman Information Systems in a similar role then moved onto New Era of Networks (NEON). In 2001, Phil eventually decided to turn to sales consulting and worked as Senior Vice President, Strategic Accounts - Americas/Asia Pacific at Telelogic then onto another senior sales performance coaching role at Infomentis until 2010. He concluded his consulting career at Oracle and IBM. Phil was involved in countless side projects and hobbies including director of many beach volleyball events, race coordinator for The Peachtree Road Race, club volleyball director at A5, English language commentary for FIVB World League Volleyball, and college volleyball commentator for Fox Sports South and ESPNU. Later in life, he found community at Mount Paran Church of God, but his greatest pride in life was building a life with his former wife Anna and helping raise their beloved daughter Cory. Phil was preceded in death by his mother Mildred (née Botwood) Bush, father Lt. Colonel Ralph Howe Bush as well as his aunt Eileen (née Botwood) and uncle Nathan Brown. Phil is survived by his former spouse Anna (née McWhirter) Bush, daughter Cory Rives Bush, aunt Gaile (née Bush) Newsom, sister-in-law Cindy (née Eiland) McWhirter, brother-in-law Christopher Tyson McWhirter, and nephews Caius Tyson McWhirter and Winton Rives McWhirter. A virtual memorial will take place on Sunday, September 20th 2020, at 4 PM, EDT for friends and family. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Phil's name to Southeastern Guide Dogs. The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to Elaine Levine, Brett Boston, Mike and Tracy Minich, Shepherd Center, the Pace Academy community, and countless others who have stood by Phil and his family throughout his life.

I will always remember Phil for being one of the first people who believed I could play volleyball in college. I remember sending him an email of my first offer and him saying be patient. I always appreciated his guidance during my high school volleyball career. All my love and prayers to Anna and Cory.

Phil will always be remembered for his total involvement in whatever task he got into. He was active from the moment he pledged the Omega Chapter of Chi Phi at Georgia Tech. He's surely coordinating a game with his fellow volleyball enthusiast big brother Bill Probst who preceded him. I know countless organizations will miss his volunteer efforts. RIP Phil.

I first met Phil almost 30 years ago, when he joined my sales team at Bachman Information Systems. A harder worker you'll never find. As Anna said in her post, he only had one speed - Full Steam Ahead! As both of our careers went in different directions, we stayed close, primarily because of Phil's efforts. I've never met anyone who was as genuine, loyal and honest as Phil. He will be missed, but certainly not forgotten

Phil Bush- what a fella he was. He was one of the 1st people I met back in 1995 when Atlanta was gearing up for the 1996 Olympics. He was in a leadership position over the Volleyball venue— at the Omni. It was obvious from the beginning he took his position very seriously and had everything under control.
It was during this time I met his wonderful wife Anna who by the way had his baby - Cory- during the Olympics. In the years to follow my connection with Phil was with the Peachtree Volleyball Classic. This tournament was very well ran due to the pride and joy Phil took in his preparation. During our pre tourney meetings Phil had everything organized to the tee. I acted as a tournament site manager several years and heard many coaches, parents, and players compliment how the Peachtree Tournament was one of their favorite tournaments due to how well it was ran. This was all possible due to the time and energy Phil put forth in preparation. It was obvious Phil cared about people that he really enjoyed the sport of volleyball. It was also always fun hearing him broadcasting the Georgia State Volleyball Tournament.
I have learned that death may end a life but I am so blessed to know that my relationship with Phil Bush will live on forever.
Love you Phil - RIP

It is with the deepest of sadness that my husband and I say goodbye to Phil on this physical plane. He walked me down the aisle at our Pine View high school graduation (and graciously used a mop as my stand-in for the rehearsal I couldn't make), brought our Zeta school alumni together many times later in life, and was a staunch and dearly loved friend to us all. He will be sorely missed. My heart weeps. Sending love and prayers to all of Phil's family and loved ones. May you find peace. Fly to the sky, my friend.
