SCHUTT, Raymond F. Raymond F. Schutt born in Chicago, Illinois, the son of the late Raymond E.Schutt and Helen Schutt (nee Styzen), died at age 73 passed away in Atlanta, GA where he was a longtime resident, Saturday, July 19, 2014. He was the cherished husband of Adrienne Schutt, nee Anderson. Raymond Schutt is also survived by his brother Charles E Schutt and sister Mary Ann Russell and husband Joseph Russell, niece Leslie Russell and nephew Matthew Russell. Schutt's early years of piano studies began at the age of six. He was accepted at the age of 10 by Leon Rosenbloom, a former pupil of Arthur Shnabel. His formal debut came at the age of 14 when he was soloist with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, George Schick conducting. At the Chicago Conservatory, he earned Bachelors and Masters degrees in Piano Performance (Pedagogy and History minor). He earned his Doctorial Degree in piano performance at Indiana University, Bloomington. At IU he studied with such master musicians in Piano: Jorge Bolet, Sydney Foster, Abbey Simon, Janos Sarker, Josef Gingold, and Menachem Pressler. Raymond Schutt performed hundreds of concerts throughout the United States and Canada as a solo recitalist, with orchestra, chamber musician and accompanist. Of equal importance to him as his performing career, was his passion and commitment to teaching. From his first appointment at the age of 18 to teach privately at the Latin School of Chicago, he successfully held positions at the Chicago Conservatory College (college division and preparatory dept.), Indiana University, Dalhousie University, Halifax, Nova Scotia Canada (Professor of Piano and Chairman of the Piano Department); Chicago State University and the American Conservatory of Music, Chicago (visiting professor and Artist-in Residence); and Founder and Head of the Piano Department at the Alabama School of Fine Arts in Birmingham, Alabama. In Atlanta, he was an active solo performer lecturer, accompanist, and chamber musician performing with such groups as the Atlanta Virtuousi. He was in much demand as a private teacher in the Atlanta area where he enjoyed teaching hundreds of private students. Schutt was affiliated with such institutions as Pace Academy, The Lovett School, The American InterContinental University, and Brenau University. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
