Rebecca Wright Obituary

REBECCA ELLISON WRIGHT was born in Lexington, Kentucky on March 20, 1979 to George and Valerie Wright. She departed this life on Monday, March 8, 2004, after a long illness. Rebecca was raised in a Godly and Christian home and because of that nurturing she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. Her church families were an extension of her Christian upbringing, having belonged to the Ebenezer Baptist Church, in Austin, Texas and at Cornererstone Baptist Church under the Pastorate of Rev. William Dwight McKissic. Her Maternal Grandparents William and Ida Ellison gave her the presence of passion and protection as only Grandparents can give. Her Paternal Grandmother, the late Amanda Quick Wright. also cared for her with compassion and concern. Her Great Maternal Aunt, Mildred Rash, became another care giver, watching over Rebecca with eyes of engagement and lifting her with helping hands of hope. She is survived by her parents, her brother William Benjamin ,Wright and Maternal Grandparents and Great Aunt Mildred, by her God Parents. Albert and Mary Broussard, her Uncles, Jeffrey Ellison, William Michael Ellison, Anthony Wright, Scott Wright. Harold Greene and Jerry Payton, her Aunts, Scottie Greene. Wilma Wright, Amanda Payton, and Sheree Wright, other great aunts and uncles and a host of cousins and a countless number of friends who Rebecca touched with her life. Visitation in Houston will be on Wednesday, March 10, 2004 at the Carl Barnes Funeral Home, 746 West 22nd Street, from 12:00 noon to 3:00.Visitation will also occur in Arlington, on Thursday, March 11, 2004 from 10:00 am to 1 1:45 a.m. at the Cornerstone Baptist church, 5415 Matlock Road. The funeral service will be Thursday, March 11, 2004 at noon at the Cornerstone Baptist Church in Arlington. The Interment will be Friday, March 12, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at the Paradise North Cemetery, 10401 West Montgomery Road Houston. Persons may die but they are never dead as long as their memories remain. Rebecca lives with the reassurance that when earthly life is ended, heavenly life begins.

Rebecca and I grew up in Ebenezer together. I always remember her sweet and positive personality. I even remember one year we both chose the same Easter dress, we thought we were too cute--great minds think alike! I'm glad I got to visit Rebecca when we were "all grown up." Rebecca will truly be missed. Your family is continually in my prayers!

I knew Rebecca when she attended Ebenezer Baptist Church, in Austin. Please accept my deepest condolences on the lost of a very upbeat and loving woman. It has been more than a decade since I last saw her, but I will never forget the lesson of patience and compassion she taught me. Your daughter was a blessing to me, and I have never nor will I ever forget her sweet spirit.

To the Wright Family,

My thoughts of Rebecca go back to the years she spent with us in Discipleship Training-Grades 5-6 at Ebenezer. As leaders, Sister Martha Shaw and I did our best to teach the children how to live, what to believe, and how to behave. We studied Baptist doctrine, theology, history, ethics, and much more. Rebecca was a loving child, very respectful, and always wanted to be a part of the group. She was so very special and I feel blessed to have known her. God bless you at this sad time and forever give you the strength to face each day. --Florence Hawkins Temple

Dear George, Valerie and other family members,

I was truly saddened to hear of the tragic loss of Rebecca. My thoughts and condolences are with all of you. While I had not seen Rebecca since she was about 6, I will always remember two things about her. One is her as a friendly, talkative person who reflected the wonderful parents and family with which she was blessed. The second is the pure joy on your faces when she was born. I was a student of George's when she was born and have never seen anyone look happier. Once again, please accept my heartfelt condolences.

Thankfully, God promises that He is "close to the brokenhearted" (Psalm 34:18). In times of intense sadness, we must turn to Him, and we must encourage our friends and family members to do likewise. When we do so, our Father comforts us and, in time, He heals us.

I would just like to say stay strong and rely on God for support. Your daughter is in a place where there is no sickness, sorrow or death. Only happiness, joy, and everlasting life! So try not to focus on her death, but her new life in a place that we all should look forward to going. Try to remind yourself of this heavenly paradise in times of sorrow, and reflect on her happiness.
