RICHARD GOLDSMITH GREER Mr. Richard Goldsmith Greer, age 81, of Atlanta, GA died Monday, June 5, 2006. A native Atlantan, Mr. Greer attended the University of Kentucky and was a graduate of the Atlanta Law School. He was the founding partner of the Greer, Klosik, Daugherty, Swank and McCune Law Firm in Atlanta. Mr. Greer was a member of the State Bar of Georgia for over 50 years, a member of the Atlanta Bar Association and the Lawyers Club of Atlanta. A World War II U.S. Army Air Corps veteran, Mr. Greer served as a bombardier and navigator aboard B-17's during the war. A French farmer befriended him during the escape and hid him from the German authorities until France was liberated following the D-Day invasion. Following his military discharge, Mr. Greer went on to teach art in Greenwich Village in New York prior to attending law school. Mr. Greer also received the Eagle Scout award from the Boy Scouts of America as a young man. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Shirley B. Greer; his children, Gail Greer Gordon and Gillian Ann Greer, both of Atlanta; Jane Roberts Greer of Savannah, GA; Clark Olds Greer and Paul Olds Greer, both of Atlanta and Jeanne Kirkland of Savannah; 6 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening, June 7 from 6 until 8 p.m. at Patterson's Arlington Chapel. Memorial tributes to Mr. Greer and his family may be posted by visiting www.mem.com. Although I never had the pleasure of meeting Dick, I sat with rapt attention listening to stories proudly told by Jane of her father's heroics. He lived a full and wonderful life with experiences that most of us can only dream about. Celebrate his life with loving memories............

Dick Greer was a great mentor, boss, and friend. Assisting him as his legal secretary was an education; observing him with his wife and family was a lesson in love; sharing so many memories with Dick and Shirley Greer in our youth was such fun! John and I extend our heartfelt sympathies to Shirley and the family but we are also glad for all the good and special things you had together.
