HOUCHINS, Robert B. After an eighteen month battle with cancer Robert B. Houchins of Marietta died peacefully at home with his loving wife by his side on June 19, 2013. Mr. Houchins was 83. Services will begin at 11:00 am on Monday, June 24th at St. Paul Methodist Church in Marietta. A private burial will be held at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia. Mr. Houchins was born in Leaksville, North Carolina in December 1929. Mr. Houchins is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, June Houchins; his brother Kenneth Houchins of Sarasota, Florida; His son Scott Houchins and daughter -in-law Christie Houchins and his granddaughters Reagan and Lauren Houchins of Kennesaw, Ga; his son Carter Houchins, and daughter-in-law Carlie Houchins and his grandson Matthew Houchins and granddaughter Morgan Houchins of Charlotte, NC. He was preceded in death by his mother, Allie Houchins. Mr. Houchins attended Wake Forest University from 1949 - 1951 and the University of North Carolina from 1953 - 1955. He graduated in 1955 from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged in 1953. Mr. Houchins was a lifelong civil servant working for the Federal Home Loan Bank Board until his retirement in 1988. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Thomas Emerson and his staff, Dr. Raul Oyola and his staff and Paula Stillwell, RN, Betty Kanter, RN and Donna Riley of Heritage Hospice for their kindness, dedication and forth right approach to his care. Mr. Houchins was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church of Marietta.
