Ronald Barnes Obituary

BARNES, Ronald Horace "Ronnie"

Mr. Ronald "Ronnie" Horace Barnes, 68, of Stockbridge, Georgia went home to be with the Lord in the early morning of February 24, 2021 after a lengthy battle with heart and renal disease. Ronnie was born in Decatur, Georgia on September 19, 1952. He was the third child of the late Horace and Elizabeth Barnes. He enjoyed all the activities of growing up in a neighborhood of friends who could play outside from early morning to late night and never grow tired of adventuring together. He worked at Colonial Stores during high school and saved enough money to buy his first car. Ronnie graduated from Columbia High School and later from DeKalb Technical College (now Georgia Piedmont Technical College) with a degree in diesel mechanics. He went to work as a mechanic for Mack Trucks and had a 35-year career during which time he became the Regional Service Manager for the Southeast Region. Following retirement from Mack, Ronnie then worked for Nextran Trucks until his retirement in 2020.

Ronnie married the love of his life, Barbara Morris Barnes, 38 years ago and they had one son, Ronald Blivin Barnes who preceded Ronnie in death two years ago. In his later years, one of Ronnie's greatest pleasures was serving on the Parking Team at Stockbridge Community Church. He and Barbara spent many Sundays, rain or shine, greeting arriving worshippers and helping everyone find where they needed to be. Ronnie is survived by his wife, Barbara, sisters Dr. Joan Read and Sharon Seabolt, brother Pat (Barbara) Barnes, sister-in-law Pat (Joe) Smith, brother-in-law Mike Morris and many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.

The family would like to express a special thank you to the Emory Critical Care Team, ICU 5 North who provided such loving and excellent care for Ronnie during his last days.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 13, 2021 at Stockbridge Community Church with Pastor Chris Woodson officiating. In lieu the family request that donations be made to Stockbridge Community Church at 4401 Highway 155 North, Stockbridge, GA 30281. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Those who wish may sign the online guest registry at www.cannonclevelandfunerals.com. late arrival Sorry; I worked and traveled with Ronnie many times for Mack Trucks. I went with him to L.A several times. For anyone who knew Ronnie Barnes L.A was not in Calif, but rather lower Alabama. We worked in the shop on two Triple AAA Cooper trucks with the mechanics in Dothan from early morning til early evening . Then we each rode with the driver of each truck all night from Dothan to Mobile and back to verify performance, arriving at the shop early Morning. He was a hard worker!!
I thoroughly enjoyed his company, his humor, quick wit and his talent!!
His sense of loyalty, fairness and dedication to his customers , co-workers and always his family. Also that incredible laugh will not be forgotten. For me, he was the essence of the term, A True Southern Gentleman! With his passing the world that was privileged to know him, has been much diminished!! The Russian people don't like to say goodbye to family. I'm not Russian but they do it well. So for me to an all around good guy, who was part of the Mack Family. I say Dasvidaniya, until we meet again Ronnie.

Barbara and family my sincere condolences.

Grief can be so hard, but our special memories help us cope. Remembering you and your loved one today and always. Worked with Ronnie for many years with Mack Trucks. He was always so brutally honest but with a dry sense of humor, with a total commitment to his job, colleagues, dealers and customers. He called me Murf and I can his his voice now. Truly one of a kind...condolences to the family.

Ronnie was a good man. Stern but from the old school. He made you work for his respect and when you earned it, he would do anything to help you. I first met him as a young man breaking into the business, we got along and I appreciated his camaraderie and help. You will be missed. Condolences to the family. RIP

I will never forget the warmth Ronnie made you feel when he greeted you. He was a take charge kind of guy who told it like it was, but always had a smile on his face. Landon looked up to him and enjoyed their talks. He will miss him greatly. He was a great friend to Lee, they shared a special bond. Lee will greatly miss their long talks. Barbara we are always here to help with anything. We love you and will help you keep Ronnie’s memory alive❤

I will always remember Ronnie and Barbara as they greeted us arriving on the SCC parking lot! What a great couple and wonderful representation of a godly couple. I'm so sorry Barbara, but I just know that our Lord will comfort you and hold you in the palm of His hands! You are in my prayers.
