BENTSEN, Ronald Mr. Ronald Bentsen, age 85 of Conyers, died Friday, January 15, 2016. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marybeth 'Bunny' Bentsen; sons and daughter-in-law Brian and Lisa Bentsen, James Bentsen, David Bentsen and partner Mary Gathright; daughter and son-in-law, Laura Bentsen and John Vlha; grandchildren Heather Hayes, Kathleen and Matthew Battaglia; great-granddaughter, Harper Battaglia; sister and brother-in-law, Sharon and Doug Olson; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Bentsen was a veteran of the United States Air Force. After his service during the Korean War, he attended the University of North Dakota on the G.I. bill. He met his wife Bunny there in January of 1960. He traveled extensively during his accomplished 42-year career with the Department of Army, and lived with his family in Japan for five years and Germany for five years, before settling in Conyers in 1973. After his retirement in 1995 he continued to enjoy travel with his wife and vacations with his family. In his lifetime, Mr. Bentsen visited approximately 30 different countries. In his spare time, he also enjoyed reading, nature and gardening. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion Post 77. A private burial for the family will be held at Honey Creek Woodlands Cemetery. A memorial reception for close friends and family will be held at the home of Brian and Lisa Bentsen on Saturday, January 23rd at 3:00 PM.
