Rosalie Spurlock Obituary

SPURLOCK (Flack),

Rosalie "Rose"

Rosalie "Rose" Flack Spurlock, born October 6, 1928, in Rushville, Indiana, passed away peacefully on March 21, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of resilience, love, and generosity. She was the beloved daughter of Toney E. Flack Sr. and Ruth Bausback Flack, the fourth of seven children.

Rose was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Spurlock; her son, Donald Spurlock (Diane); and her six siblings, Neoral Cody Fort, Toney E. Flack, Jr., Anita Woltering, Jack Flack, Sr., Charles Flack, Sr., and Joe Flack, Sr. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Shirli Flack; her daughters, Jan McCarter (Mike) and Cindy Yowler (the late Jim); seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A lifelong learner, Rose graduated from Ben Davis High School at just 16 years old before attending Butler University for three years. After marrying and starting a family, she was widowed at 36 with three young children. Rose faced life's challenges with remarkable strength and determination. She relocated her family to Florida where she later returned to school and proudly graduated from the University of Miami alongside her son Don in 1971.

Rose dedicated 35 years to teaching second grade, shaping the lives of countless students. Her passion extended beyond the classroom, where she also spent 35 years working at Macy's, finally retiring at the age of 85.

Rose's legacy also includes the cherished memories she created for her grandchildren. She hosted "Camp Nana" each summer, where she filled their days with creativity, learning, and fun. She built intricate dollhouses, taught them piano and poker, and ensured they knew the value of a hard-earned dollar. Her adventures spanned beyond home, as she took her grandchildren on a grand European tour in 2006, making memories that would last a lifetime.

A service to celebrate Rose's life will be held at Roswell Presbyterian Church on April 11 at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Boy's Town or Shriner's Hospital for Children.
