Roswell Butler Obituary

Family-Placed Death Notice

ROSWELL I. BUTLER Roswell I. ×Ros× Butler, age 91, of Marietta, GA died June 9, 2007. Born in College Park, Ga. in 1915, Ros went to elementary school in Buckhead, later attending North Fulton High and GA Tech. Ros lived in the Atlanta area his entire life. Two weeks from graduation, he voluntarily entered the Army, serving in the Philippines on Beac Island during WWII. He was honorably discharged as a captain. After his military service, he entered the construction industry with his brother, Doyle. Initially, they owned Butler Construction Co. doing residential work. After a few years, they took over their father's company, Capital Construction Co. and ran it successfully for over 40 years doing commercial and industrial construction. Ros was an excellent cost estimator and was a skilled craftsman. He was very ×hands on× and involved in many large projects, doing many projects at Ford Motor Company and Lockheed. Ros was an extremely generous man who would literally give you the shirt off his back. He was an elder in the Presbyterian Church and instrumental in the development and existence of Camp Westminster for young adults. Other hobbies included hunting, horsemanship, tennis, card games and shuffleboard. He was a fierce competitor, and if you ever ×bested× him, it was a red letter day. Ros will be remembered by many young people for his help in their upbringing and Christian development. An excellent role model, he was always helping others and nothing was too much trouble for Ros. He leaves behind his brother, Doyle; sister, Ann from Ohio; and wife, Eleanor. His two children, Beth Vandergriff and Roslyn Boren and step children, Mark and Reid Bell still reside in the Atlanta area. Step daughter, Jackie Jones, resides in Mississippi. Mr. Butler also leaves behind numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. His funeral was held at Roswell Funeral Home on June 11, 2007.

Dear Mrs. Eleanor and Family,

My deepest condolences are for you in the loss of a loving husband, father, and friend. Living an exceptionally long life, throughout it, it seems he was very generous to many; willing to give the shirt off of his back. With this and many other displays of kindness he became a role model for many. When beautiful memories well up in to your mind keep them as permanent fixtures. Because with the hope Jehovah God provides you have the chance to see him again. Yes, by means of the resurrection you will be able to see Mr. Butler again in a paradise on Earth.
