Family-Placed Death Notice

COLLUM, Sara SARA FRANCES STEVENS COLLUM Sara Frances Stevens Collum died peacefully October 11, 2010. She was born July 2, 1916 in Gadsden, Alabama to parents Martha Born Stevens and Manuel James Stevens. She was married to Owen Eden Collum Jr., who preceded her in death in 1970. She has been President of Collum Properties since his death. Sara Frances loved to travel and visited most of the states in the US as well as many countries around the world. She was active for many years in the Georgia Federation of Women's Clubs being a member of LaVista Woman's Club for 58 years, serving as President for 2 terms, along with other positions at the club level, District and State level. She served 2 terms on the Board of Trustees of Tallulah Falls School. Sara Frances was one of the original members of the Ladies of the Old Guard of the Gate City Guard, served as President, and was still a member at the time of her death. She was a charter member of the Daughters of the Nile. She was a member of First Christian Church of Atlanta for 75 years and was active in Christian Women's Fellowship for many years. Sara Frances is survived by a son, Owen E. Collum, III and a daughter, Marlo Collum, and her husband, Lester E. Scherer, Jr. She had 3 grandchildren, Andrew Christian Harber and wife, Amy, Amanda Harber Grogan and John G. Stikes, III. and one great-grandson, Rhys Anderson Harber. She had several nieces and nephews and was especially grateful to her good friend, Enid Stewart. Memorial services will be held Saturday, October 16 at 2 pm at First Christian Church of Atlanta, 4532 LaVista Road, Tucker, GA 30084, the family will receive friends at 1 PM at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Gynecologic Cancer Foundation, 230 W. Monroe, Suite 2528, Chicago IL 60606, Tallulah Falls School, or Crossroads Hospice, 1957 Lakeside Parkway, Suite 500, Tucker, GA 30084
