Sonya Rothenberg Obituary

Family-Placed Death Notice

ROTHENBERG, Sonya SONYA GERTIN ROTHENBERG Sonya Gertin Rothenberg passed away Thursday, August 13, 2009 at Hospice Atlanta. She was a loving mother, wife, and grandmother with a big heart and a remarkable mind. She grew up in Montreal, Canada and graduated from Sir George Williams College in Business. She met her husband, Harry Rothenberg in New York in 1949 and they married in February 1950. Together they raised three children and made a wonderful home. She began a career in real estate in 1970 in Watertown, NY and became a real estate agent and a real estate broker all while raising her family. When her husband of 29 years passed away in 1979 she moved to Atlanta, GA. She purchased a home in Dunwoody later that same year and lived there until earlier this year. During those 30 years she made a beautiful home for her children and grandchildren, and worked as a highly successful real estate agent for Harry Norman Realtors in Dunwoody. She received her Phoenix Award in 1977 and worked alongside her daughter, Debra for 22 years. She made countless friends and successfully helped many people buy and sell their homes. She received numerous awards for her longtime service to Harry Norman. She leaves behind three children, Alan, Jeffrey, and Debra all of Atlanta; two beautiful granddaughters, Jaclyn, a senior at George Washington University, and Ariel, a senior at The Weber School whom she adored with all her heart. Her family wishes to express their gratitude to her many Atlanta friends, her close family in Canada, and to her wonderful caregivers who meant so much to her these last few months. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice Atlanta, 1244 Park Vista Dr, Atlanta, GA 30319. Funeral services will be Sunday, August 16, 2009 at 11 o'clock at Patterson's Arlington Chapel with Cantor Donna Faye Marcus officiating. Interment will follow at Arlington Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service at H.M. Patterson and Son, Arlington Chapel, 173 Allen Rd, NE, Sandy Springs, GA 30328.

A good name is more precious than rubies, and Sonya Rothenberg had a good name – a very good name! She was a special person, a beloved mother, a devoted and loving grandmother.

She showed unlimited patience and personal guidance when we needed it, and for that will always be very grateful.

May her dear soul rest in peace and may her memory be a blessing to her family and to all who knew and loved her.

With deepest sympathy.
