As Sylvia's grandson, I will be forever appreciative of her efforts to be an exceptional grandparent, a goal in which she succeeded fantastically. In particular, I will always appreciate, and will never forget, her generosity, which enabled me to complete my legal education, which, in turn, enabled me to get a good job that, in turn, enables me to help other people less fortunate than myself. But for her generosity, I would not have made it through school, and I even wonder how much longer I might have been able to cling on to life itself, as the despair of poverty, destitution, and desperation was gripped so tightly about my neck, I was not certain how much longer I could carry on. Nevertheless, with Grandma's help, and with the help of relatives inspired by Grandma's example, I made it. But for their efforts, I would not be here today. In Grandma Sylvia's memory, I exhort all who read this to live Sylvia's example by reaching out to help out those less fortunate, those whom, by fate of circumstances beyond their control, leave them poor and destitute, but nevertheless willing and able to answer the Call if only given the opportunity. Support and care for your children, and treat the poor with dignity and respect. Do not give just a hand out; give a hand up. Pay living wages to your workers. Live an ethical life. Practice Hillel's maxim: Do not do unto others what is hateful to you. Be righteous. Pursue justice. Do the right thing.
I'll miss you, Grandma. In your memory, let us all resolve to make you proud. I love you.
