It is a sad day for our rehabilitation family. Ted was loved and respected by everyone--his clients and his peers. I will forever miss his smile, especially his grin on the tennis court as I struggled to earn a single point. It was a blessing to know and work with him for many years.

Boy how time flies. Ted will always be the "New Young Preacher" who came to Schlater, Mississippi in the mid sixties. ( This old grandma was 15.) His first church (enrollment 40 On Easter Sunday) was on the banks of McNutt Lake in the heart of downtown Schlater (Population 600) . There was no air conditioning and the wasp vied for the congregations' attention each Sunday. To Ted it might as well have been a cathedral in New York City. Not only were his sermons inspiring, his service to the community and his flock were unsurpassed. I am happy that he is now reaping his reward for a job well done,"Good and Faithful Servant" that he was. I am just sorry that I never told him what an impression he made on my life.
To Ann and the children , we will always remember you and keep you in our heart and prayers.
Love, Sheilah Hamilton Pantin

If ever a "man of the cloth" ever touched my soul, it was when Ted Lanford left his position as a teacher following "the call" and moved with his family to the tiny hamlet of Schlater, MS to become the minister of our small Methodist Church.
Reverend Ted and his bride, Miz Ann, enered our lives with their brood of three when his calling required a stint back in college before continuing on to Seminary College. Our church was his first church ever to pastor and I cannot fathom the life change involved for "him and his'n".
Ted touched my life showing that following the path of Christian acceptance while not easy was one of fulfillment of needs unknown.
Although years have passed and roads led away from further contact, Ted has been with me in all the steps that have led to today.
I mourn your loss and celebrate, as he taught me, of his passing to a better place than we know except in our heart and soul.

Ted was our minister at Schlater Methodist church when I was young. He was such a great man. Ted, Anne and all the children were so well liked by everyone in the community and a good friend to all. Everyone thought so highly of him. My thoughts and prayers go out to all the family.

Ted was one of my very favorite Rehab friends. He was a thoroughly good person in this world. Please accept my deepest sympathy.

When I started work with Georgia VR under the old Bureau for the Blind in 1974, I spent a week with Ted training. He always seemed to take so much time with every client. I was amazed at the fact that we finished the day will our goals completed.

When I would call him in the Rome office, they would always ask who was calling. I always told them, "Tell him it's the best counselor in the state." He got a kick out of that.

For the next several years, I saw Ted often. He was a very important person in my life. My heart is very heavy to learn that he is no longer with us.

Ted was my friend.

Uncle Ted was such a kind and endearing person. One of my favorite memories I have was of our stay with them in the summer of 1994. This was just a few months after my fathers death. What a kind gesture in such a tragic time. I will never forget that.

Ted was a great guy with a sense of humor and laid back style. I am saddened to hear this unfortunate news. I am quite sure he gave that sly little smile to the first one to meet him at Heaven's Gate. I knew him from our Rehab days. May he rest in Heaven. Doyle Stewart
