Thomas Persons Obituary


Family-Placed Death Notice

Thomas B. Persons, Jr., age 89, of Atlanta, died Saturday, February 28, 2004 in Monroe. Mr. Persons was born in Monticello. His parents were the late Thomas B. Persons, Sr. and Bessie Spears Persons. His wife, Lucile Manget Persons, preceded him in death. He was a member of the Monticello Baptist Church. He attended Auburn University and received a degree in Interior Design from the University of Cincinnati. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was an Officer serving on the Admiral's Staff while on duty in the Pacific Theater. He was a member of the American Society Interior Design. As a member of ASID, he contributed to the restoration of the White House during the Kennedy years. He worked in the Connoisseur Gallery at Downtown Rich's before opening his business on West Peachtree Street. Survivors include his nieces, Laree M. Benton and Jean P. Mays, both of Monticello and grand nieces and nephews, James F. Benton, III and Rebecca B. Felts, both of Thomasville, Eugene M. Benton of Monroe, Laray M. McSwine of Santa Rosa Beach, FL; and John B. Mays, III of Burke, VA. A Memorial Service will be held Monday, March 1, 2004 at 2:00 PM at the Monticello Baptist Church in Monticello. Dr. Kerry Bunn officiating. The family suggests memorials to the Monticello Baptist Church, 334 W. Green St., Monticello, GA 31064 or a charity of one's choice in lieu of flowers. Jordan Funeral Home of Monticello is in charge of arrangements.
