John and family,
We are sorry for your loss but know that he lived a good life, fought the good fight and is resting in eternity! It was a pleasure visiting with him and Mrs. Solms during our time in Atlanta. I knew I could depend on a Diet Coke as we chatted. Going with Cam to visit your parents was one of the nice things about living in Atlanta...pulling up that steep driveway and seeing him standing in the back waiting for us....
I am sorry for your loss and am thankful to have known him.
With love,
Amy and Peter Chauncey

To have “Mr. Bill” as my boss for five years was a tremendous blessing in my life. It was a gift from the Lord and I am eternally gratefully for the opportunity to have worked for him. Not only did this employment opportunity touch me but it blessed my daughters as well. I shared with them the love story between “Mr. Bill” and “Ms. Peggy” as I experienced it firsthand every day working in their home. I shared with my daughters the gentleness, kindness, and charitable nature of a man who loved the Lord, loved his family, and loved life. He also loved reminiscing the days of yesteryear and his memories of the past brought history to life for me as I had never experienced it before. “Mr. Bill” was truly a “gentleman and a scholar” who made the world a better place. He was an international legend that made a difference in the world. “Mr. Bill” will be missed by all that were blessed to know him.

John and family of dear mr William Solms, we were shocked when the news reached us about your father's passing away and at the same time we feel very blessed to have met him while visiting Margraten in september. It was obvious than that it was asking a lot of his energy to come here, but we felt at the same time that he wanted to experience and celebrate the outcome of the oral history project in which he played such a prominent role. On behalve of my co-boardmembers Jo Purnot and Frans Roebroeks I wish the family these days of farewell, much strenght. I hope they are a starting point for your lives from now on,as a constant opportunity to remember what he taught about life, just by who he was.

You will be missed. Thank you for being a wonderful neighbor, friend and gentleman for all those which you enriched by your presence. Duke, you have always been an inspiration, as a good friend to my father, which passed away last year, and my mother, which has always held you in the greatest esteem. From my family, thanks for always being there, and you will remain in our thoughts and prayers, as will be your loved ones. Your family should take solace in knowing that you have always been an honorable man, and an example of valor and decency for those which had the good fortune to know you.

Dear John and Family,
You dad was an honorable man who lived a long and fulfilling life. You can't really ask for more than that. I know you will miss him terribly. He only rode with me twice, but each time I enjoyed his company. I find comfort in knowing how deep your faith is. I hope we get to talk soon.

It was so great John that you had some quality time with your dad when you went to the Netherlands with him. That must have been a very special time. I know that you will miss him much but he has lived a great life and for that there is a lot to be thankful for. My heart felt condolences go to you and to your whole family.

John and family - our prayers are with you as you handle the loss of a family icon. His obituary is amazing but what's more amazing was hearing you talk about your father. May God sustain you during your loss and lift you as you face the days ahead. It does get a little easer every day. Remember the good times and all that you shared. We are thinking of you - Melissa and Alvin Newsome.
